if that was truly the case you would be driving a tata pickup, not a hilux.

He owns/runs two large garages in my town. Originally specialising in tyres and exhausts, he now does everything, full services, MOT's, etc. His runabout is a top of the "range" Range Rover and the best pickup he has ever had is a Nissan Navarra. He had to use it for work carrying large loads for commercial vehicles. He sold the Navarra a few weeks ago as his company vehicles/staff were doing the job well. He probably will not buy another pickup as he has no real need for one now. Nevertheless, he is an expert and I respect his views.

You really are an idiot, aren't you ? Of course he has knowledge of Ford Rangers. He lacks faith in Ford's ability to improve the quality of the model so that it could challenge Japanese vehicles. You should change your name to "Marmite The Dope".

^ mate, I don't like Fords and have never bought one. In Thailand, we are especially limited to the vehicles we can own, and over the last couple of years Ford have made a strong impression with the Focus, Fiesta, Explorer and now the NEW Ranger.

    You may not like them.

    You may prefer other vehicles.

    Up to you.

But, to say they are crap, before you have ever driven, sat in or seen one in the flesh, all supported by your 'mate' who has also never driven, sat in or seen one in the flesh is plain ridiculous. I have looked at several reviews of the NEW Ranger, and they are all very positive, they all say that it is the best truck in its class (excluding a VW that isn't available in Thailand).

If you want to call us dopes, that's up to you, go ahead, but your reasoning or lack off on this issue is right inline with the utter shite you write on various threads... No offence you sheep shagging simple minded twat...

What makes you think that the "New Ranger" is going to be great ? The old ones are not much good, as my mate has confirmed. What has happened so as to make Ford improve so much ? Do they have a magic wand ?

There is no good reason to think that the newest version will be better than any of its Japanese competitors. I have searched the Internet and can find no impartial review in its favour. The only people who say it's any good are the dealers who sell it and Ford, the manufacturers.

And, if I am a twat, I am so because I've worked at it. It's not because I am Welsh.

Sounds hardcore. What problems have you had? What type of winch you got? The old Tigers were a good 4WD for their class but the vigo is not my pick if you're looking for 4WDability.

Have I missed something? How has your mate 'confirmed' anything? Saying "The Ford Ranger is crap" is hardly confirmation of anything.

and yes, you are a twat, for whatever reason, you just are.

Most of the trucks you can buy today in Thailand are pretty good. The Toyota, Isuzu, Mazda and Nissan are all decent vehicles that you'd probably be happy enough with, or even very happy with.

Ford has decided to make a serious effort to make top notch vehicles; the NEW Ranger is part of this trend. Totota is decent, but the design is a bit old now - they are the brand/truck that Ford needs to beat in Thailand. Ford have very good diesel engines (the one in the Focus is one of the best engines available in any car in Thailand currently...), the new 2.2TD Ford engine can only be compared with the 3 litre Toyota engine (so the Toyota dealer told me), even then the Ford engine looks good, and Ford have an excellent track record with diesel engines, so that box looks ticked. Next, well it depends what you want the truck for... many of these won't be driven hard and a 4x4 is not needed; I'm an example, I'll drive in bangkok and out in the lanes/fields, but not heavy duty 4x4 driving; I want some load capacity for when I build the house.move a fridge, etc, but the 'car' will not be a day to day workhorse; the benefit of having a highrider (I nearly stalled and stopped in about 30 to 40 cms of water that appeared from nowhere on my way to work on Tuesday...) when you're in water or country lanes is considerable; the cab thus needs to be like a car, for me, and the new Ranger excels in this area; I often have 2 or 3 passengers so rear leg room is important, the new Ranger excels in this department... For me, it is likely the best option here in Thailand now.

Elsewhere, for folks with different needs, it may not be.

^ okay, if they are out when I finally get around to buying then I'll certainly have a look; with regard to mazda cars - they seemed to go for style and underspek the engine and gearboxes when compared to the Fords; this might not be the case with the truck though... ?

When I looked at the BT-50 vs the Ranger a few years back, the Ford seemed a bit better value for money as well, but that may not be the case nowadays.

Ford are also cheaper to service than the other major manufacturers.

So what your saying is that he has zero experience with the new T6 Ranger and essentially he is talking crap.

We have a 3.2/6speed as our work hack, they are a damn good thing and shit all over the out going model from a great height, you would be stupid to dismiss it because of an idiot who has who has (as mentioned above) never sat in/driven one.

He has no experience of the New Ranger. Its predecessors have been rubbish so it is highly unlikely that there will be sufficient improvement to place it above Japanese vehicles.

Not rocket science is it ?
