I've seen the current Model Holden Calais at the Australian embassy in BKK again today.
That is, like the whole VE series Commodore it's based on, a decent looking car with technology to match.
I wonder why Chevrolet doesn't bother importing them. At 0% Duty (Thai-Australian Free Trade agreement) they should be unbeatable value for an import, even with the AUS$ as high as it is right now.

Would the Thai public reject a big size Chevrolet sedan?

No one would buy Chevy if they had any sense.

Most American cars are to big for the road. With the current recession they are making newer economical models. They would be good here. But Ratchaburi is right they are expensive. Not because we have to make a ton of money (even though we would like to) but we require safety standards and quality standards. Americans car companies do sell here but is not the same quality you get a at home.
I am not a expert. But from what I see the Thai government import standards are low. And since cars are still pretty much a extravagance here they are expensive. Right down to used cars. So American cars that do come over here ( for the most part) are as low quality as the rest. I am not talking about personal vehicles shipped from home.
Don't under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is exact my point that that car wouldn't have to be 3 Million baht.
    I wouldn't choose a Chevrolet/ Holden over a similar priced BMW either.
But at 0% Import Duty, even with the 50% excise tax, that car should not be more than 2.2 Million in Calais (Top)-Spec.
We are talking a fully equipped Sedan in E-class/ 5-Series size with a 6.0l V8.

A 6.0l V8 commodore SS, which Clarkson supposedly enjoyed more than a BMW M5 could be sold for less than 2.000.000 Baht.
What do you get here for that money?
    A 2.4 Camry or Accord.

    But then again:
Would we want/ trust Somchai with a 400 HP rear wheel drive?
They drive/ behave bad enough in their slightly cheaper Fortuners.

My last full year in OZ I had a Holden club sport 5.7 V8, drove around Aust in it with plenty of crap roads included in the journey.

76K Kilos in 2 yrs. Great vehicle and not a single problem, other than the cost of filling it up.

Not one Model of the current Chevrolet staple sold in Thailand is designed, let alone build in America.
The same applies to the other American company with local presence I think.

Think it's the same body as the Vauxhall Carlton or Omega.

Being an Ozzie, l am very familiar with the Holden___Chev, they are excellent in all ways. Having owned both, I would say the (Chev) is the quivilant to a BMW, if not better and here in Australia very very much cheaper to purchase and maintain, with a much lower depreciation rate. But, if l had a choise, l would have the Australian Ford Falcon, in my oppinion, a better car than both of 'em.

Looks like somebody did it, even though it's only the small engine.
Would like to know how much they want to charge.

    ??? Are you sure???

For the money (600k for a 4 or 5 year old version) they're an interesting option.

I have a Black Chevy Lumina that I purchased the second year that Lumnia's came out in thailand, approximately 6-7 years ago. I will have to look into the exact detail again. It has a 3.8L V6, Mag Wheels, 230 Baht Stereo System including two 12" MTX (Imported) Subwoofers, center channel with true THX surround Sound, 7" screen and a total of 11 speakers. A Sweet Ride for sure. I am not good with and am not familiar with the Australian version of this car or I might be tempted to Import some nice things to Spice it up. Plus I do not have the expertise to do it myself. So, I would be willing to sell my car for a reasonable price just to see someone do what I know can be done with this car.

If any interest in buying my car, please let me know.

First released in Thailand in 2003 so that would make yours more like 9 years old and worth at best 300k.
