Fantastic machine, build to cruise in duo + luggages at relatively high speed for hours. And handy on mountain roads. Like a much biiiigger VFR750.
^That looks like the ultimate cruiser. Gold Wings are nice, but massive. Not fun on small sois in Thailand.

My father had one brand new I took it for a spin and droped it while tring to do a tight U turn I felt bad at the time. Then half the Aussie cops droped theirs in a few months so they shit canned them due to being to top heavy but still a nice bike to ride if you are after a touring machine
Great for the USA or Europe, but too heavy and too much wind protection for Thailand. Much of the the touring here is at slower speeds and a rig like that is overkill.
The bmw gs is a perfect touring bike here. Handles superb good in rain and around trucks and busses. Handles irregular pavement like a champ. You can stand up on the pegs and look eye to eye with the trucks. And there are quite a few around on the used market. They're also easy to maintain with a dealer network.

Yes not the lighter machine compared to the CBR 900RR I had at the moment. But for one day I've tried highway and the pass leading to Chamonix and it was a nice ride.
Secure feeling compared to the VMax "floating" front wheel, especially in the curves on mountain roads at home.

what i can,t work out is what is the old association and hd? i been riding em since i was 20, thats nearly 28 years now, yea some of em were turds but these new ones get up, my nightrain pulls 220k thats fast enough for me, and yea i still throw me leg over jappers every now and then,there ok but my wrists are fucked from a stack years ago, i love me harley and the trumpy, well its still growing on me, but each to his own, i don,t mind the v max either and yea rigger them shitbox hondas did fall over easy too, i dropped a mates doing much the same, a low speed turn, the speedmaster has a very common trait to it as well

I used to get on my bagger in Antioch to go to get a pack of cigs, But ride up to Portland and go to dinner and an AA meeting, spend the night with a lady friend and then ride back, think nothing of it and it was over 1000 mile trip.

In case you haven't noticed, US highways are quite different from Thai roads, the riding or even driving takes much more out of you here.
When I am in Australia I can do a straight drive through from Queensland to Melbourne, about 1900 Kms, only stopping for gas and a feed, here I struggle to achieve half of that without shagging myself.
I have had comfortable bikes, like a Honda Varado and sports bikes and BKK to CM in one go is about all I can do in one stretch, its the concentration thats required here to stay alive that tires you.
While I hate to admit it, the best long distance touring bikes are the Big BMW's, a GS would be my pick for a long trip, the riding position and especially the suspension makes it less tiring. BMW sure has funny looking supsenders but for the real world (I mean not short fast sprints) they BMW suspension works superbly well.
A few of us tried to keep up with a GS going to Pai once, while we were bouncing from pot hole to pot hole the GS just swallowed it up, effortlessly.
They worst off was some poor bastard that had a HD Fat boy (or similar). Sitting behind him demonstrated why Harleys should only be used for posing around Pattaya.
This is the real problem I find as well even when driving a car. I think the roads in Thailand are just as good or better than many in the US these days but with all the motorbikes, tractors, buffalo, cows, and clueless "I bought my license yesterday" drivers it is impossible to relax when driving.Originally Posted by peterpan
