What an over rated POS! If you enjoy watching your eyeballs vibrate go for it! At least a heritage soft tail or an FLHS ride half decently. The fat boy is all show and no go. It cant be as bad as my old 1981 FLH strip dresser was shit I couldnt even keep my feet on the foot pegs at 170klm/h.
I know a few guys that own Fatboys and dont have to many problems with them other than starter motor problems at 25,000 klm. May be you just road a dud.
I havent really decided it has to be a fatboy but there is one around for the money I want to spend 500k to 600k

I thought a Fatboy was basically a stripped down Heritage? Same engine and frame surely?

Thinking of selling my 98 Heritage cheaply but the fact that it's done almost 130k without a problem is giving me second thoughts. Damned most reliable bike I've ever owned.


My 98 Transalp on the other hand has only done 50k. The engine sprocket fell off at 45k, the CDI units are fucked (production problem), the battery overcharges (again production problem) the rubber rear indicator stems have both rotted away, the plastic side panels break too easily when removing etc.etc.......still, it's good for pottering around on.

Today I read about the new Kawasaki ZZR1400. Now that sounds like a nice motorcy.

Yea I probably rode a crap fat boy. I didn't know the heritage had the same chassis.
The heritage soft-tail is bearable but still not a comfy ride.

Seriously if you're in the market for a cruiser look for a big suzuki intruder. It's one smooth mofo with the shaft drive.

If you've got 950000 baht to spare you can buy one of these!This has to be the best motorcycle made today!

The harley beaverson...A wonderful ride yes and yes they are best rented!

I think I'd look especially camp on a harley.
They are certainly not for everyone and don't appeal to me in the least, which is just as well at a over 500,000 a ride.

The BMW is not the best motorbike made today.

It is a fucking BMW, its pretty good but by no means the best.

Stupid fucking indicator things on it that need both hands rather than one.

I met a German a couple of weeks ago Quirrel, had this big BMW that he'd just bought for 990,000 baht.
Nice colours too, sort of old fashioned cream and brown.
He told me it was the best that money could buy.
I told him I thought it was an outrageous waste of money.
He told me he had huge amouts of money to waste.

Fair enough, arrogant cnut.

If you like the BMW GS series take a look at these:

I like the Buell but would be concerned about reliability until this model gets some more years of production. The KTM and the Suzuki would also be good choices and though the V-Strom is supposed to have a few minor reliability problems non of them are fatal flaws.

On the other hand not too many of these are real cheap bikes. Get a second hand on/off road bike and put some reasonable semi-knobby street tires on it. You will have a bike that is easier to handle around town that will do everything as well or better than the GS with the exception of long distance rides and highway manners.

Those GS BMW's are outrageously expensive. For riding around Patong my little 8000 Baht 100cc honda dream is hard to beat. I'd feel stupid riding a motorcycle which costs more than a house and land up north.

Why would you feel stupid if you can afford it why not. Stupid would be buying a bike that you cant really afford

I own a Honda Wave 125i here in Thailand. Does it count ?
Enough for a ride in Lotus Chiangmai or in the city, I dont like so much riding in Thailand.

I had many bikes before in Switzerland : Yamaha 125 DTMX, Yam 125 DTLC, Honda VFR 500F2, Montesa 125 (for fun in the woods), Honda VFR 750 (2 different models) Kawazaki 1100 ZZR, and finally Honda CBR 900 RR. Had a lot of wonderful rides in the Alps and on the european roads.

This is the bike that i use while upcountry. Speed is not an option. Braking depends on your foot power...

Your feet must get pretty warm trying to stop this monster.

My Tiger now has a Hyper Pro CDI, a Custom stainless exhaust with black back box, kevlar front mudguard.

Planning on dropping in some Cams and possible changing the cylinder from 110cc to 125cc
