Teslas in Victoria aren’t greener than diesels

So following on from the clever VW guys making their cars past EPA emissions tests.

Now it turns out that electric cars may not be any cleaner than diesels!

The knit your own shoes brigade must be adding whisky to their morning latte?

For years some have been saying that electric cars just push their carbon footprint back to the central power stations. Now it appears in Victoria it is true.

Fair enough but that article assumes all charging electricity is made from brown coal.

Correct Lantern, not all Vic generation is from brown coal, only 85%.
Seems about right and that's enough for me to agree with VN "
For years some have been saying that electric cars just push their carbon footprint back to the central power stations".

The primary energy source for the generation of electricity in the State of Victoria is brown coal - one of the largest contributors to Australia's total domestic greenhouse gas emissions and a source of huge controversy for the country. Australia is one the highest polluters of greenhouse gas per capita in the world. Brown coal is used for the generation of approximately 85 percent [1] of Victoria's household, commercial and industrial electricity consumption. The remainder is sourced from natural gas and renewable energy sources - hydro, wind and solar.

Don't spoil their religious beliefs FFS. Just like buying the latest eco friendly TV every year is saving the planet. Shit, what did they do with the old one? Sell it ebay or craigslist!

It was always obvious the energy had to be generated somewhere and unless it was hydro, solar, wind or Nuclear that was going to create pollution.
Although they haven't figured that out in China. In our city here the taxis and buses are going electric.
These are a very nice ride and surprisingly roomy.
