1970 Other 1970 Electric Car | Trade Me Motors
The brainchild of Timaru engineer and inventor Donald MacConachie, this is one of maybe EIGHT complete cars he built, with the intention of mass producing them for the Kiwi market. The fiberglass bodies were made in Washdyke by a Fibreglass Contractor and the cars used a shortened Triumph Herald chassis as their base, plus Morris 1100 rear suspension and belt drive to two electric motors driving the back wheels. 72 Volts. The motors were made somewhere up north by an electric forklift company. I believe this is the only complete car left, and is in a great barn find condition.
It was actually originally made as a "range extender", with a Briggs and Stratton 5kva generator mounted under the hood. Still has exhuast, mounts and all the auto start switch gear for it and I have the contact details for the guy who has this original generator from this car and he'd happily trade it for a replacement genny.
Fiberglass, seat and headling are in pretty good nick, as is the dash and gauges. Chassis is pretty sound but has some surface rust. Doors, boot and bonnet all open and close. Check out the sweet lightning bolts molded into the bonnet and door skins!
^ me neither, my mum had a cambridge. Google suggests tgere are steering wheel, grill, badge and seating differences.
Something a little different. You have to guess the name and the trim level.
Mustang II
Fox Body Notch Back 5.0 LX
The LX was the shittiest trim. I never had a Mustang. But I do appreciate that it left a mark on automotive history. The Fox body was easy to upgrade, they had bullet proof 5 speed manuals, snappy 302 small block and they were light and fast. The exhaust was especially easy to do. Thats why Mustangs always sounded better than Camaros.
You need 5 lt to pull skin off custard and a body like that to make a statement.
Like nearly all American macho vehicles, its a silly car for even sillier people.
At home on trailer parks and council estates. Good for dogging meet ups and drug runs only.
I believe they managed to squeeze around 200 bhp out of 5 ltr.
