280km/h.....280mph would make it rather fast....

of course that doesn't actually mean it was the speed he was actually doing on impact, but he sure was going fast.

Friend of a friend, but I have no sympathy

280kmph is 174.9 mph or thereabouts. Socal converted it to miles and was pretty close.

Can't imagine 280 kph on a city street. The fastest I've ever driven was 205 kph, and that was on an almost deserted interstate when I was a teenager driving a tricked out 55 Chevy.

Often an engine will free wheel during an accident, so register a greater speed than the car was doing.
As for the Porsche driver, that's stiff, but l do feel for the other maybe innocent victims.

Condolences to the families involved. Hope the remaining driver in critical condition will pull through.

The 996 GT2 has a fearsome 'widow maker' reputation among the Porsche fraternity. Driving one demands certain responsibility and ability... Neither unfortunately evident in this case.

As was said before this has nothing to do with the impact speed. I have a picture of a Honda Wave speedo stuck at 140 KPH

280kph is insanely fast for anything but a racetrack or places like Montana or Wyoming.
I once got a ride around a racetrack in Porsche 934 race car. He was hitting 300kph on the straightaways, brutally fast car, hurt when he hit the brakes and slammed into the shoulder harness! The side g-forces were pretty heavy as well.

If i'm not mistaken this happened on the Don Muang tollway which is just straight for miles and elevated so very much possible and actually very easy to get those kind of speeds. Much more difficult to avoid crashing into someone driving normal speed and changing lane etc front of you...

Good news that at least one idiot monkey is no longer on Thailand roads. I guess it never occurs to these dickheads that there might be something in their way, presumably because noones been allowed to impede their progress in life thus far.

Shame it looks like he may have taken some innocents with him (although don't fortuners have rear view mirrors?). At least it wasn't a minivan full of kids.

    Good riddance.

I did 130 mph once, that`s 209kmh. My workmates wouldn't liftshare with me again afterwards. I had some fun with them guys, i used to wait for them to get in a deep sleep then drive on the rumble strip and shout "FUCK" No sense of humour some people :-)

Ive occasionally come down the M3 in the uk at up to 140 mph. But there's a world of difference between a well lit, deserted uk motorway at 3am and the Don Muang tollway.

On that particular stretch of road anything over 60-70 mph is stupid.
