You should need to wear a helmet on that trike so no one would recognise you on it.
I have 7 helmets at home, all bought from overseas and sent to Thailand. Bell's, Shoei's, a Davida, and a Chinese pudding bowl one for a laugh. And they get worn.
Fahn Cahn's
After reading this thread I have to wonder what exactly might go into a helmet, besides a wang.
Ok DD you pulled that one off well...
I agree ! These idiots deserve the shit that happens to them...
But sad for their kids who do not deserve such stupid retarded parents.
Even less acceptable from "educated" farang than Thai...
But educated farang do not drive motorcycles in Thailand right ?
Cheers.
While I absolutely believe helmets should be worn, I can only laugh at the helmets offered to those people. They are pointless and I doubt quite seriously that the cutsey 'Scoopy I" helmet is going to do much of anything. The inner foam would be like smacking the ground and they are not worn properly anyway. So sure there may not be any blood but your head is scrambled. There is no safety testing on these helmets. I mean come on 110 to 150Baht?
When I bought my Wave they gave me my option of plastic buckets they called "A helmet" I laughed. I took it home and showed my GF exactly the safety value with a very light hammer hit. How serious can you take it. They make it affordable to avoid the fine. Nothing more. I see Farangs in the huge groups not wearing helmets. The Darwins I love are the old DB's on Harley's wearing Bandana's, Shorts, Sturgis Tank tops and flip flops.
But you know, as someone said, if you wanna risk it then fine, but at least have the respect of the others on the bike and make them wear something. If you really cared you would buy them a real helmet and wear at minimum long jeans and shoes.
I saw a Thai the other day on shoulder on my way to Hua Hin, Had helmet it appeared, but shorts(I see more farangs wearing them then Thais), no sandals( I suspect they left when he fell) and a T Shirt. He had been clipped and was down. His body looked like hamburger and there was blood all around his head..He was out. The shoulder of the roads, where most ride, is loaded with rocks, glass, sand, etc. Not only do people loose control because of it but it also acts as a very effective abrasive. It just peels the skin right off you. While not sure if dead he will be permanently scarred for life.
I always wear Helmet(Arai), pants, shoes and socks, shirt for even the shortest ride If going on a longer ride, I will wear gloves and my body armor. That's on my wave. If on my other big bike I wear my other gear designed for it plus my Shoei helmet.
The main reason helmet laws are enforced in the real world is because it costs a shit load of money to rehabilitate a person with head injuries so that means us tax payers foot the bill.
In Thailand where the family must look after the injured person and they must pay for the treatment the government don't really give a fuk and just pay lip practice to enforcing the helmet law.
Anyway, if fuk ups like Socal recon a head injury is top fun then just keep riding without a helmet and consider it a nanny state law.
^ But are there REALLY "horrendous numbers" of them carking it?
I DO see/hear/read of heaps of Thais getting wiped out permanently but they have an two extra liabilities to go with a missing helmut. Common sense and logic.
EDIT: Make that three. I forgot ignorance and /or disdain of basic traffic laws.

You can use logic to justify anything. That's its power. It’s also its flaw.
I used to often see helmet checks at the Maenam police station, but have'nt seen one since september, although i know there have one or two.
socal; .you are a total D####head
Up to me, go back to the prison farm, nanny thinking countries ya come from. Most of us come here for the freedom of choice. Remember your in the land of the free.My choice,my head, my life,my decisions, at 60 i don't need anybodys ideas about my safety.Hope most of you wear wrist bands, you know you can get rsi from wanking too much, boys!
This is not a nanny state ,agreed ,it is a Death state , I live in a small town , near Cambodia .We have at least , as a minimum, one motorcycle death a week, Why? no helmets or underage , no helmet, no license.Dead.!!!!
Welcome to the real world. Noting that most respondents are of english heritage i can well imagine their predicament with worrying about helmets. Having being an long timer here i've noticed most can't even sit on a barstool with out falling off. Dangerous i warn you, what about a law requiring them to be worn by all pub patrons as well? it's only logical. Yep, more laws, keep them coming and have us all living wrapped in cotton wool, then we will all be happy.

I messed that up!!
I was going to disagree with Terry and say, there will be more patients in long term Care through skull injuries if they have wore a helmet. I would like to see the stats.
Having been the victim of"come on get on the back" to a couple of evil knieval acquaintances, I can only advise, it doesn't matter 1 iota if you are wearing a helmet when you are going faster than 180 km's an hour and your best friend who fancies himself as the next Val Rossi hits an oily patch of road, while turnIng the bike Parallel to the ground,
You will, like me, lose your left bollock
I rode large-engined motorcycles for decades, with and without a helmet. Seems to me that the only thing that got beat up in any crash was my arse. I always laugh when I read that a gent has a broken-leg, broken-arm, or some other bodily-injury and the media always adds, "But he was not wearing a helmet."
Just look at the category and classification of the helmets sold in Thailand as safety-devices. Do you honestly think that most of them will be suffice in a head-injury? Tests by transportation agencies in the USA show that the majority of helmets tested were useless at speeds of over 15-miles-per-hour. It all depends upon which helmet you purchase and how you fasten it.
By the way, for those that ride without their approved helmets, it just cleanses the gene-pool.
