Tv Reception In Thailand

I am in the process of moving household,furniture, etc to Thailand....as part of the move if i bring televisions purchased in UK/Ireland will they function in Thailand or is the frequency different. Thanks

Newer UK TVs are digital and as there's no digital transmission here, then no.

Older analogue ones should be ok (I think) as the systems are both PAL, but there's fuck all worth tuning into anyway on free-to-air broadcasts, so it's not worth the effort.

Either though 'should' work if you get cable/satellite.

Assuming your retiring here and shipping out your allocated container full of personal effects.
Televisions = plural.
The first will be tax free, any others wont.... better to flog em off and purchase here, will save any reception headaches.

They'll work fine, but why bother shipping them when you can pick up a brand new 55" LCD in PowerBuy for Bt70k.

Understand that if you have an agent handling the movement at the Thai end he will work the customs piece for you. It isn't all that frequent that the customs inspectors open a container being brought in by a Thai who is returning home after living abroad for more than 2 years or the Expat coming here and shipping used personal household items for personal use. And if the agent at this end has and presents to the customs inspectors the planned/estimated cargo container manifest it might just be that what is in the container or the numbers if specific items in the container is off and could work to your benefit. There is a web sight, I don't know what it is off hand, that has the typical items that can be brought in customs free. I know that my 20 foot container arrived at my Thai residence unopened by customs officials. Thanks to my agent at this end who worked the customs piece successfully.

dont bother with any shipping to thailand me and the boss left uk. 2009 she had lived in uk.20years. we sent 30boxes of personal items by ship to bkk.240quid through an agent when it arrived at port we had to phone the agent handling it here we had made copys of every single item.the agent said they would have get another agent to retreive the goods and make declare everything we sent copys of all items. then the fun started we were getting calls every 10minutes what are sizes of different items to give to customs.now we started to smell a rat so phoned customs it was nothing but a load of ballocks now the boss is getting angry not one to piss off she put a stop to all the calls and told these pillocks if she dont get here goods she would visit them in person with here brothers not ones to mess with.transport was arranged bkk. to korat 6000baht handling fees and admin.12000baht knowing the price on good quality kitchen goods and ten of my fishing rods/reels we would have dumped in the dock.ps after we found out the other handling agent diff.name and address was same company.so be warned

Thanks very much for replies and Superman, back and forth to Thailand this ten years, but didnt pay much attention to watching the box, if you get my drift, now i have become a quiet born again citizen.....maybe leave TVs at home to avoid custom issues
