That may well be a requirement in theory, but there are ways around it - see last comment. I wouldn't put my money in, even if there was decent interest. It's for people who cannot borrow from the bank and want to avoid the loan sharks.

I can't see what else a farmer can use other than their land paper to guarantee the loan return. But, no disrespect, I'd never allow my missus to sign as a guarantor for someone else's loan. I've been shit on by people who I thought I could trust and it cost me. Never again.

Slightly of topic. But a couple of years ago banks in Laos were offering upto 16% on KiP deposits 12 % for baht and 6% for USD all fixed term of course. . Government stepped in put an end to it. Back to international rates now. I guess the lao folk aint that daft.

National Grid is as safe as you'll get. United Utilities again been over sold in my opinion. SSE and Centrica also looking cheap although the big gas and electric suppliers have been losing customers by the truck load to smaller suppliers. But if want a safe dividend paying stock that has a monopoly and is a good 10-15% oversold IMO just go for National Grid. NG on the ftse100.
