    Red Ant Bites

Was picking up a large pot of Funa Faa (Bouginvilla) day before yesterday and didn't notice those little red buggers swarming over my left hand. Now, two days later, the hand still resembles a basketball and alternately itches like hell and throbs bad.

Been swabbing the the thing with Tiger Balm and taking some antibiotics and if it doesn't get better by tomorrow, I'll go see the quack...although, I don't have much faith in that...

Antihistamine cream should sort it. Available over the counter. Menthol toothpaste works as well.

Perhaps Antihistamine is what you need.

^ I "react" to red ant bites, keep a pack of antihihistamine around, one usually does the trick, creams etc dont work for me...

    1. Treatment
    2. The first thing to do when a red ant bites is to remove it from the skin. It must be removed with a hand or cloth; jumping, stomping, or immersing it in water will not detach it. Then, wash the skin with soap and water to remove any traces of the venom on the skin. Disinfect the skin with rubbing alcohol. To reduce the amount of swelling and irritation, apply ice to the sting sites for about 20 minutes. Once a blister forms, Benadryl can be used to relieve the itching. If the victim is experiencing a major allergic reaction, call 911.
    its an anti histamine too

It's a little late now, but saturating the area right away with a towel or of some TP saturated with plain old 5% vinegar usually does the trick.
    Vinegar draws out the toxins.

Cheers for all the good advice guys...& I'd take pictures but the hand has gone down now. This morning the itching and swelling is no big deal and I wasn't waking up last night scratching the hell out of it ( cun, cun etc) LOL.

I'll remember the antihihistamine trick for next time, or...just wear a pair of gloves like the old lady warned me to do...

Those nasty red ants are good to eat, a little crunchy with slight citrus tang. More vitamins and minerals than the Centrum Silver!

If they are the really tiny kinda orange and brown numbers, then they're right little bastards... One bite swells up to about 5-10 times the size of a Mozzie bite...

Whilst your hand was unuseable, did the missus help you out with the essentials???
