    Hillbilly goes to the hospital...

I don't want to sound dramatic but it seems as though the need to visit Thailand's medical service seems necessary. In a completely sober state I managed to fall into my fish pond twisting my right knee in the process. So tomorrow I will begin to explore the murking world of Thai medicine.

I hope that this is not like Uncle Sam's hospitals...

And BTW, my foking knee hurts...

Prosthetics are reasonably priced and unlike western hospitals you get a choice of woods.

Teak is best for all round durability

Cedarwood is wear resistant but a bit heavy

Mahoghony looks nice but is the most expensive

Redwood for marathon runners or heavy users

Rainwood if you want an ornamentally carved leg

    LMFAO...

a few months ago one of my knees swelled up to look like yours...except that I didnt do anything to cause it...

didn't hurt but was unnaturally large so in the end off I went to BNH to see the specialist...he took one look and diagnosed 'nuns knee'...generally caused by too much praying... or at least too much kneelingwhich is what you are doing at the point of entry I guess!!...

time is the cure he told me...oh and pay the thousand baht on the way out!...

after one month it returned to normal size...

good luck with you hospital vsit HB

My son has had two bad legs in the last month. First time he fell over playing football and pulled a muscle or somehting. This time he tried to stop a bike (he was on the back, his mum was riding) by sticking his foot in the wheel - pulled all the skin off the back of his foot and made his ankle swell.

I've been pretty tough and not allowed my wife to take him to the hospital, my view is that as long as it isn't broken then it's better to deal with it at home. Like Klongy said, there's very little they can do other than overcharge you for stuff.

Anyway, my son isn't dead yet, so after these two successes i'm hoping to ween my wife off the "Go to the hospital for a cold" attitude that seems to prevail in Thailand.

Are you saying that our HB is a hypochondriac?

^^^I don't know Flash, but I never went to hospital until I was about 22 when i broke my ankle. If I was sick or had a cold then I'd just stay at home and my mum would get some medicine from the chemists. Don't see any problem with doing the same with my kids.

Plus, wasn't there some sort of survey that showed over 50% of the medicine given out by Thai doctors was either unnecessary or harmful. I'm against taking medicine unless it's absolutely necessary as they all have some kind of side effect.

I actually agree with you, everyone is kept too sanitized these days taking drugs for everything, your immune system hasn't a chance to develop.

^ Hence the increasing number of people in 'clean' countries who have allergies. Our immune systems are actually turning on ourselves due to being bored and having nothing to do.

I try to avoid synthetic medicines at all cost. I have a copy of the Physician's Desk Reference handy and some of the side effects of common drugs can be quite nasty.

HB, seems like you're just gettin a little older, if your knee went out for no reason, then I would say it most likely just older age and you've had a few accidents before this that caused you to have THIS problem. I think that the best remedie would be to get a scrape job done. The docs go in 3 difeerent directions and scrape out your knee, worked for me years ago. Will have to get the other one done soon though.

Someone I knew got something like this once. He sat on the plane too long then a day later, his right knee was swollen. So I took him to Bankok Hospital in Bangkok. The doctor used a needle to take water out of his knee. Believe it or not, a lot of water!!! It's a about 1 litre was inside his knee. While the doctor was working on it, I heard he screamed like he was dying.

Just hope you would not be that bad.

Yes, I believe this is quite common amongst katoeys. You could always try a different position I suppose.

It was a nice touch pulling the shorts right up to show off the skinny, white, hairy tops of the legs! Thanks for not pulling them up any further!
As you twisted it in a fall it probably just needs rest for a few days and anti-inflammatories to ease the swelling. Ligament damage would be more serious.

We go to the hospital for the exam.

Hospitals, worldwide are the same, sometimes a person has to wait.
    But eventually x-rays happen.
