    Eye laser treatment

I'm wearing contact lenses, but had enough of taking them in/out every day. So I took some information on eye laser treatment, which seems ok to me. In Hadyai it costs around 50.000 baht for both eyes.

Has anyone outhere done it? If yes, is it worth it?

My mate had it done at Bumrungrad and said it was one of the best things he ever done (apart from coming to Thailand and working with me for a couple of years of course).

He was very short sighted before the op.

Yeah well that's what worries me, the disclaimer! However I don't think that the chances that you'll go blind are that big? Then again one never knows, but it's a pain in the arse fucking about withthem lenses every morning/evening. Not to mention, dust, wind......

Likewise - did you recently win the lottery? You seem to be looking to spend a rather large amount of dosh (so far I have counted, house, car and eye surgery)

Just be a speccy twat like I am. It's not like you have to worry about looking like a movie star over here, is it? As long as you've got a big nose and pasty skin, you're sorted.

Thanks DD, that's what I needed some convincing good ending stories.

Don't like glasses, and fed up with the lenses so this seems like a perfect solution.

It's definately not something that is worth trying to cut costs on, or going to a potentially inferior but more conveniently located clinic. Do your research, and find the best place. You'll probably find that most of the horror stories are from people who thought they could save a few bob by taking the cheapest alternative. I would also want to make sure that the person who was doing it had done it plenty of times before. I know somebody has got to be the opthalmologists first patient, but you don't want it to be you.

I know lots of folks who have done this in the west. One issue that early procedures had was sensitivity to light and visible halos around light sources on a dark night. Most of the folks I know who have done it recently have had zero problems. A few people end up with less than 20-20 vision but all the ones I know of don't need glasses anymore. If you have a astigmatism (sp) it is more complicated but still doable. In Canada you are looking at $2,000 to $5,000 for the procedure.

    Likewise,

Don't just go where it's "easist."

I think you should check the place out thoroughly.

How is there pre-screening? To check for any medical conditions that might exlude you from this?

Research the best place around. A place with the best reputation. Even if it means paying more.

I would have 1 eye done. Then wait. If everything is OK, get the other eye done.

Keep us posted, and good luck.

(And BTW, I dig your avatar.)

I think this idea is golden, if it costs more absorb it. If there are extra fees to do it on at a time and you can't afford it then you can't afford to do things right so don't risk your eyesight.

Yep, will definitely do some more research on it. WE've only got two eyes that supposed to last for the rest of our days .

I think I'll avoid the one in Hadyai since he's kind of pushing me to do it NOW because he's offering a promotion . This is not something that I need a promotion on! Hadyai is said to be the capital of the South but is still quite "Ban nork" if you ask me .
    Thanks for the advice.

A freind of mine had it done in Pattaya, it was a bit of a disaster, eyesight now so bad he had to give up his Motorbike and very light sensitive, he prefers to stay indoors now, usually at "heavens above" and has to get real close to see "the details".
Joking aside it ddin't work for him, he's well pissed off.

Yes, you never hear about the ones that go wrong as they have their bottoms so well covered, I have read that one in 4 is a baddie! - be careful.
