Gourmandises Bakery - Wine, sandwiches, cakes and candies

The other night, I met some friends that were staying at the Swissôtel Nai Lert Park located at 2 Wireless Road in Bangkok.
We had a quick sandwich at the
Gourmandises Bakery which is on the hotel property. At 7pm every night, which is when we happened to meet, all sandwiches and bakery goods go on sale for half price.

I browsed around a bit and looked at their candy selection - They had white praline, sesame praline, tea praline, baily praline, pectin jelly candies and Equinoxe brand chocolates.

They also have cakes and bread.

They also have wine from France, Spain, Germany, Chile, South Africa, Australia and of course Thailand. (and a few more counties). I did not see any Boone's Farm from Modesto California. Would probably be 60 baht a bottle though!

The Chateau Petrus Grand Cru Exceptionnel Pomerol Bordeaux 1985 sells for 70,000 baht.

Nearly all of the Big Hotels do the 7pm sale. Just see the people at the Landmark Bakery at 7.

    French bread

The french bread from Tesco in Lat Phrao is great - and i make my own subs - the one shown here looks like a poor cousin - the beef looks insipid and the salad filling - well - i make my own for lunch at least 3 days a week -- some sliced pastrami from the deli counter - salad from the salad bar - what more could u want - sure beats eating a bowl of noodles for lunch and reminds me of home -

They also have cakes and bread.

6pm at the JW marriott, some good things to be had but the choice may be less by that time 50% discount on takeaway
7 at the landmark, good pies and pannini (not the football stickers)
    not impressed with the rest

    Tesco's bread is wank.

Carrefour bakes excellent bread and cakes. Why anyone would go and get ripped off at a hotel bakery is beyond me.

I have to admit that I get most of my bread from Yamazaki or Sun Royal which is the same company

The Yamazaki 'English' bread is great for monster sarnies but their 'French' bread is also very good as is the Five Grain. I do yearn for some decent Crumpets, I got some from Villa but tasted very floury and the price of gold chain! - any sources?

Yeah, but last time I was at Yamazaki I watched a bunch of people picking their noses, sneezing and then finger a bunch of the bread and other pastries. No one bothers using the tongs.

Agree with you on Carrefour, superb Croissants and bread .
I brought some bread at tesco in Pattaya last night, completely different from Tesco in Udon and half the size.
The stuff in Udon is quite good, crusty and tasty, this crap at Pattaya was soft and bland.
I would have thought they would at least be consistant across the country as Carrefour are, but I think Tesco are crap at most things and not a patch on Carrefour.

A bit overpriced - 1000 Euros would be the price in Europe - but not too bad when you consider most wines in the kingdom are marked up by at least 100%....
