Firstly, this WILL be happening in the near future, so its really a case of both "damage limitation" and of managing expectations (The FAMILIES' expectations, more than the wife's).
The wife (as nearly always, lately) is leaning towards my way of doing things more and more. Not just with this, but in general, too. She has seen what i have attained in life using my methods and practices, and what her family have achieved using theirs, and i can tell she notices the contrast. Whether this will translate into her taking an evermore larger pinch of salt than she does at present, with what her family says she should do in life or not remains to be seen.
But, 25 plus years in an engineering capacity hasnt led me to any great knowledge of any sort of farming, let alone quails.
So, what i need is some ammo to counter any family involvement, which i KNOW will be a cheap and nasty start to the evdevour, and it will be downhill from there, i fear. That ammo being the how and where to get the stuff like decent stock, decent, long lasting equipment.
As stated above, i know sod all about any of this, so, if there is anyone doing this in any part of Thailand that can give me some idea of sourcing, tips etc, i would be grateful.
Stuff on the net that i have found tends to focus on India, mainly, with a few sites in PI, and, of course, the hobby type sites in USA

Never mind the quail eggs, those can wait.

From what you say it seems you may wish to familiarise yourself with Thais, the culture, expectations and the family structure that you intend to join. Money numba one and farang numba ten may be a simplified, light hearted farang view of Thai values, but it is also a numbing reality that has left many an intelligent though fresh farang wounded and reeling and bewildered.

If as you say she leans towards you and your Western methods in matters of how things should be done, it is likely if not probable that at some time in the future this will change, and critically after you are committed.

Mum says this or dad says that, and she may bear the social and domestic consequences of siding with the foreigner, but only so far. As you come across as a stable and reasonable guy with a cool temperament, assuming this is you and also that she is sincere, that much easier it will be for her to eventually, tomorrow or next year, start easing her own burdens by switching allegiance in the knowledge or hope that it doesn't damage your business empire and or your relationship. Which is more important to her? - you may know or think you know better than anyone else, but family and face are high Thai priorities.

I don't know the numbers, but you might consider backing off to do your dd at the business end, the bonus being that this gives you valuable time to fathom what's happening with your new family at your new home.

    Good luck.

Are you sure that's not the scenario you're referring to?

I just wanted to see haw the op was coming with his quail farm. I am raising quail in Petchabun (and a small chicken hatchery)and would like to compare notes. It is a little more involved than stated in earlier posts, but it can be a lot less work than you might imagine. There are a couple of shortcuts and places not to shortcut.

So far in breeders, young adults and chicks I have around 150 birds and about 100 eggs incubating. My breeders are doing very well and in the last 30 days I have averaged 15 eggs a day out of 16 hens. I do occasionally get 17 eggs in one day, but not often. I did a 2 week feed consumption and it came to 28 grams per bird. I believe the hens probably consume a little more so for prediction purposes I figure 30 grams a day for layers. This would mean that a kg will feed 33 hens which would give about 30 eggs. Eggs in the market here go 50 eggs for 60 baht so I hope to wholesale at 1 bath per egg. We are selling boiled eggs for 1.25 baht a piece for now as we have low numbers. So, 30 baht for 30 eggs and the feed will cost about 18 baht. Figure 20 baht cost per 30 eggs.
I am doing a feed conversion on a batch of about 50 chicks and will see how much they cost to get to slaughter. I have one batch of birds that weighed 180 grams at 32 days and I will take them another month and expect to bust 300 grams. This will be about double the size of Thai quail in the market so there will be a profit on the males. I have my new quail house built and am running power to it now and plan to run about 400 layers. I will probably run my hens for 8 months and cull. As soon as I get my layer cages filled, I will start doing some serious selective breeding for size. Lots of other things are involved. I'll try to update as things develop.
