Burning the very fruit of their labor, workers from Goodyear clashed with police outside the tire-maker's French headquarters Thursday in a last-ditch attempt to save their jobs.
Goodyear has been trying to restructure or close its plant in northern France for five years in the face of a shrinking European car market. The workers say Goodyear wants to shift the work to China, where tires can be made more cheaply and which is closer to booming markets.

French mother Bouchra Bagour on trial for 9/11 T-shirt
https://teakdoor.com/images/imported/2013/03/921.jpg
Bouchra Bagour denies the T-shirt was intended as a provocation
A mother has gone on trial in southern France for sending her son to nursery school wearing a T-shirt reading "I am a bomb" and "Born on 11 September".
Bouchra Bagour, 35, was reported to police by the teacher last September, and charged with "glorifying crime".
At the start of her trial in Avignon, she denied defending terrorism.
Ms Bagour's brother - who gave the T-shirt to her three-year-old son named Jihad - is a co-defendant in the case and also denies the charge.
The garment, which the boy wore to school in Sorgues near Avignon on 24 September, read "I am a bomb" on the front and "Jihad, born on 11 September" on the back.
On Wednesday Ms Bagour told the court she had put it on him "without stopping to think about it".
She insisted it was not meant as a provocation and stressed that her son had been born on 11 September.
Zeyad Bagour said he had never sought to defend any cause by buying the T-shirt.
"It's the day his birth I wanted to highlight, not the year," he told the court.
The prosecution argued that the defendants had shown no regret.
"Who can claim that this is not an direct and scandalous allusion to terrorism?" a prosecutor asked.
He called for a fine of 1,000 euros (£870; $1,300) against Ms Bagour and 3,000 euros for her brother.
The trial has been adjourned until next month.

Nigeria 'lesbian football ban' reports examined by Fifa
Football's world governing body Fifa has written to the Nigerian Football Association over claims lesbians are now banned from playing football there.
Dilichukwu Onyedinma, chair of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), was quoted as making the statement.
"Any player associated with it will be disqualified," she is quoted as saying.
While contravening Fifa's anti-discrimination policies, the situation is made more complicated because homosexuality is illegal in Nigeria.

Activist Rashidi Williams: 'It is very difficult to live as a gay man in Nigeria'
Currently, a Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Bill that specifically outlaws same-sex unions is awaiting a signature from president Goodluck Jonathan to go in to law.
If that occurs, gatherings of homosexuals or any other support for gay clubs, organisations, unions - whether in secret or in public -will be banned, with same-sex couples facing up to 14 years in prison.
In a speech at the NWFL's recent annual general assembly, Onyedinma is reported to have said that lesbian players would no longer be eligible for the Nigeria women's national team and would "be sacked" from their club sides.
The Super Falcons have won the Africa Women's Championship eight times, but exited the 2011 Women's World Cup at the group stage and did not qualify for London 2012.
