Wreckage of a Chinook helicopter shot down last week in the Tangi Valley in Wardak province some 60 miles southwest of Kabul, Afghanistan, Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011. The Chinook helicopter that insurgents shot down over the weekend burst into flames before hitting the ground, leaving wreckage scattered on both sides of a river in eastern Afghanistan and killing 30 Americans and eight Afghans. The crash of the Chinook CH-47, was the deadliest single loss for U.S. forces in the nearly 10-year Afghan war.

South Korean models in traditional outfits pose during a fashion show on Ulleung island on August 10. The show aimed to promote the country's sovereignty over the nearby islets of Dokdo, which are claimed by both South Korea and Japan.

The Dokdo islets, as they are known in South Korea. Japan, which also claims them as part of its territory, calls them Takeshima

England v India: day two of the third Test

England begin day two on 84-0 having bowled out India for 224 yesterday. The storm clouds which had threatened to interrupt the second day's plays are gradually dispersing, giving England's batsmen the chance to get to work

Andrew Strauss finds his rhythm - and, repeatedly, the boundary rope - as England surge beyond 100 without loss

Alastair Cook is making this a profitable session too, though he's riding his luck a little

This is the best opening stand from Strauss and Cook since their 188 at Brisbane last November. Predictably they fall narrowly short of breaking that marker when Strauss is bowled out by India's Amit Mishra with England on 186

With Strauss gone for 87, Ian Bell - whose controversial dismissal and reinstatement was the story of the last Test - comes to the crease

Cook goes on to complete his century off 213 balls, and repeatedly sends India's fielders sprawling in vain as he knocks 14 fours in the process

But Ian Bell is soon bowled for 34 by Kumar, leaving England on 252-2

Kevin Pietersen adopts the eyes closed approach to batting

but it seems to be working for him as he's made a half century off 53 balls

Kumar appeals for the wicket of Pietersen - it's the third appeal against him in quick succession and this time he's gone lbw for 63

That looks like an expression of relief more than anything. England are now 374-3

Eoin Morgan steps in with roughly an hour and a half of light remaining. He survives easily enough until just before the close of play when he edges to Dravid who drops a sitter - for the second time today!

This is becoming another torrid Test match for Tendulkar's men

Cook, who is 182 not out, has lifted England to 456-3. Victory is in the making
