Pampered Australian pooches who turn their noses up at generic tinned food can now rejoice after dog dinners went gourmet. Darwin mum Renee Kotis was so tired of her fussy cocker spaniel-poodle cross Max refusing to eat that she decided to take matters into her own hands. She started experimenting with making doggie treats in her kitchen and has now produced a whole host of tasty treats for canines.

Artist Lucy Sparrow stands behind the counter of her felt corner shop in Bethnal Green, east London. The pop-up shop features everything from huggable ready meals and squeezable confectionery to stitched felt newspapers, ice lollies and oven chips - and even a felt pricing gun. The 28-year-old painstakingly stitched together an incredible 3,944 items over a seven month period - requiring more than a quarter of a million. The shop will be open throughout the month of August - with everything available to buy, with prices varying from £3 for a felt cigarette lighter to £840 for the store's till - the most expensive item on display.

Here are a couple of fun police booking mug shots. On the left we have Scott A. Carmitchel who was arrested on charges in connection with the armed robbery of $43,500 from the Bellagio casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Las Vegas police said he was combative and uncooperative during the booking process so they had to hold his head steady for the photograph. And on the right we have Jamie Henson, who ended up with a face full of dirt after being busted for drunken behavior at a Burger King in Orlando

A photo distributed by the Madera County Sheriff's department shows a bear running through smoke in the Sierra foothills in Sierra National Forest, Calif., on Tuesday. Fire crews gained ground Tuesday on two of the largest wildfires in California, lifting evacuation orders for about half the homes in the path of a blaze in Yosemite National Park and redeploying firefighters battling another fire in the Sierra Nevada foothills east of Sacramento

President Theodore Roosevelt once came to North Dakota's Badlands to find solitude and solace amid the area's "desolate, grim beauty." But Roosevelt's Dakota is barely visible today.
The area's oil boom has resulted in an infrastructure-building frenzy as the rush for jobs and oil demands more roads, homes, food trucks and stores. The epicenter is a 45-mile stretch of U.S. Route 85 between the towns of Williston and Watford City. Once a sleepy two-lane road across the lonely prairie, it's being transformed into a four-lane highway with bypasses cutting around towns. In the spring and summer, oil patch roadwork slows traffic to a trickle akin to a major metropolis' rush hour.
