When I was going through teacher training someone queried the imprtance of experience for the teacher.

The reply was made - If you were climbing a mountain would you rather be guided by someone who had already scaled the lofty peak and was shouting instructions down from on high or someone who had yet to achieve the peak but was just ahead of you on the climb.
