I spent some time in the Falkland Is. At certain times of the year the local homesteaders are allowed to harvest Penguin eggs. I stayed with a family on their farm settlement and they offered me Poached Penguin Eggs. I didn't get a piccy and was quite hungover as they properly plied me with local brew the previous night. I nearly chucked the eggs up the following morning, the Whites were translucent, the Yolk was almost red and they smelt and tasted of fish - not the most pleasant brekkie i've ever had. The piccy below is of boiled ones but you get the idea.

Oh, ok. I didn't know. For some reason (probably that the guys were specifically shark hunting) I assumed it was SA. I thought Aus frowned upon shark hunting.
    Thanks for the info.
Nevertheless, great whites are still relevant to the context of the story.
    Cheers.

I knew an old woman in her 90s who until her dying day called TB “consumption".

Those cots with pipe frames... I would expect in 1932 they would have been wood frames. And the architecture seems out of place for London 1932. But apparently it's genuine.

    Bamboo?

Aren't they solar panels on the roof?

Not bamboo. No sections, all smooth.
I first thought solar panels, but I googled the school and their premise was to reduce TB by lots of fresh air and sunlight, so I expect those panels are skylights. Still, the buildings do not resemble what I imagine 1930's architecture to have been.

    Trees that refuse to die.

This palm tree fell down, but got up again.

The only tree that survived the Jap tsunami, between 70,000 Trees; today protected and restored.

This one fell over, and regenerated four trees from itself.

    This spawned 7

    Growing through a street sign?

    Chopped down doesn't mean dead.

Roots extend across gap to the mainland for nutrients

    Ta Promh Temple, Cambodia

Someone hung their skates on a small tree, forgot about them, grand-kids found them years later

    Bit lonely

Not very smart, they don't always know it's winter.

    Hungry trees...

Bit of a squeeze, but life finds a way!

    Cliff's gone, so what!

Every little bit of scrap helps the war effort (Boston, 1942)

Imagine if such conditions returned, how would snowflakes cope?
