Is there a market in Thailand for pilots??? I'm thinking along the lines of a small private carrier or own my own airplane to provide air taxi services for tourists / locals and to do courier runs throughout southern Thailand...
Any thoughts???

I would think there is more of a market for a chopper service for bangkok.
I've never gotten rated on whirly-birds... May be a thought though...
Thanks...
also, private fixed-wing planes cannot fly over central bangkok - or so I'm told
You could try Chatuchak....they sell most things thereOriginally Posted by Muadib

Why have I never seen advertised Bangkok chopper services?
Helicopter from airport to hotel, general sightseeing tours, Bangkok to pattaya etc - there would be a market for it.
They opened a boat plane service 2 kms from me a few years ago, trips from Pattaya to Bangkok, the company ran for about 6 months and then closed, yep no customersreason being nobody knew about them, first I knew was when it hit the papers that they were closing down, and yes at that time I read all the weekly rags down here...

Yep - not advertising will do that to you, with the right advertising I reckon a chopper service would do a pretty good trade.

Someone is trying an air-taxi operation here in Phuket with a Cessna Caravan on amphibs.
Unless they get some subsidy for mail, freight and med-evac I don't see how they can make it off the tourist trade.
Fixed operation costs on an airplane like that runs around a million baht a month. You'd have to be selling a lot of 7000 baht tickets out to PhiPhi.
There's no way the local government is going to help a foreigner run a successful enterprise. It will be the opposite.
I doubt even a banner towing operation could cut it without a small airfield.
You want to fly airplanes and make money got to Alaska. There they even let foreigners have a go.

That would be me!
I can take off but cannot land.

I had a couple of flying lessons a few years back - was great fun
