    Breakups - Is this true?

William old bean. Some advice please for a very worried old boy I know.

He's been with this bird for about a year. They were going to get hitched apparently, but he experienced her very bad temper (waving a chopper at him!) so he changed his mind.

Now things have gone sour and he thinks she is seeing someone else on the side.
"The end is in sight" he tell me. But he is worried that after moving out she will have some, quite legal, call as a common law wife,on his property and cash. Is that so ?

i was under the impression that this is true but most girls cannot afford lawyers etc to enforce it.

Thailand does not have common law as there is no common sense. Everything is based on written laws.

Yes the very idea of a common law partner have a legal claim on you would be anathema to the law makers.

Imagine the furore when the mia nois started claiming on the estate of all those honest politicians and lawmakers!

If the mia noi has a child by her lover the child has the same inheritance rights as the children fathered by her lover in his legal marriage.

No wonder they're so desperate to make one.
I mean for you to make one.

Only if the father legally recognises the child. Otherwise this is not true.

    Indeed.
No wonder there are so many children without a father in Thailand, I mean a legal one.
And so many children waiting to be adopted.
As a friend of mine told me after he adopted a child in Thailand.
This is one of the few countries in Asia where you can adopt boys or girls quite easily.
Vietnam and China are a bit more difficult.
And only girls are "available" to be adopted in those countries.
Discussion is an exchange of knowledge, argument is an exchange of ignorance

^indeed. I've known both Thai and foreign men stand-up and say a child was theirs that could not possibly be. Likewise, I've know both Thais and foreigners stand-up and say the child was not theirs even when DNA evidenced proved otherwise.

Woman are still underlings in the legal system. It was only 2 or 3 years ago that the law was changed before which you could still legally rape your wife.
