    Exclamation Gettin her over here.

My mate is in the process of trying to get his missus over to the UK. They plan to get married in the next month or two and then apply for her visa. She has been here a few times for six months a time and they have been in a relationship for the past few years. She was a student and has had a full time job for the past few months. The problem is that my mate doesnt have the best history in finances and has just got back on his feet by coming to work full time for me. He asks my advice but personally me and the missus done our process a few years back so i am not sure if anything has changed? and if his past financial problems will cause any difficulty. He does own his own house and i am prepared to loan him some money, will a grand be enough? cheers guys.

My advice is don't lend him money if he has previous financial history. Make him stand on his own 2 feet. Getting married is only going to make his finances even more stretched. Stay out of HIS problem.

Marry her in Thailand -- easier and cheaper, then apply for a married visa.

Sound like good advice to me. Time for the lad to grow up.

To be honest guys in the last few months he really has. He was in a few grands worth of debt and has almost cleared it through working two jobs and thats the only reason i agreed to help. If i was to put a grand or two in his bank for the purpose of making his account look healthy, is that enough?

Probably not to be honest. Generally speaking with this sort of thing (presuming it is a requirement obviously, and it seems likely it would be) they ask to see bank statements going back several months.

If he's now as good as you say he is, he should be able to do it all on his own and be better for it. I say leave him to his own destiny.

That sounds like his plan already Tex, although I am not certain on that. If he wants to get married in the UK he will prob need a "marriage" visa. I think they have closed off the avenue of tourists getting married in the uk, but maybe you still can

then he should apply for a 2 year settlement visa

It is difficult to know if his financial state would be acceptable. The consulate need to be certain that they will not go to the UK and start claiming benefit; he has to be able to reassure them on that point.

Having his own house is a good thing, being able to pay any mortgage is obviously necessary. having work in the UK would also be necessary
    I have reported your post
