    Tabien Baan

A few years ago, the ex-wife of the previous falang owner of my house called round and asked to borrow my Tabien Baan. Mrs BB wasn't around, so I asked why. She said she was trying to buy a new motorbike. I felt uneasy about it, but let her have it anyway, since she's a neighbour. She brought it back the next day and said khop khun kaa.

This morning, she came round again, and co-incidentally, Mrs BB's away for a couple of days. This time, I felt even more uneasy, so I lied and told her I'd lost it. She looked mortified, muttered dtai laeo a few times, said khop khun kaa again and went on her way.

Here's the question: are there any legitimate reasons why she'd want to borrow my Tabien Baan, or are my feelings of distinct legal unease about this well-founded?
The sleep of reason brings forth monsters.

I would certainly be uneasy about it. One reason she may need it is because she may still be registered under that address, e.g. for voting

So why doesn't she get registered where she's living now? (Ok, I know you don't know the answer to that, I'm just thinking out loud ).

Here's a related question: what mischief could she get up to if I lent it to her?

using it as evidence of her domicile...which means if she doesn't pay for whatever she's buying, the heavies will come visiting you...

hopefully not while mother's away again!..

A friend of my wife registered her mobile phone at our address.
When the billed wasn't paid the summons came through with my wife's name on it. No problem, the friend paid the bill but that might not be the case with you.

You don't understand it mate. The first time she borrowed it she got a loan with the sharks and used your Tabienbaan as a guarantee for the loan.
Next time she came to borrow it is because she didn't pay the loan sharks and they demanded her ( your ) house as pay off.
Because you didn't gave it to her she muttered dtai laeo which means as much as " you're a dead man now "
If I was you I would sell up quickly and move to the other side of the country before the heavies are knocking on your door.,

Because I'm some kind of a sameritan and you are in deeeeeep shit I offer you 300.000 Baht for your house unseen.PM me while you still can.

    ^House registration book
It's commonly known as the "blue book" to us farangs. A farang can hold a Tabien Baan, but it will be in the form of a "yellow book"
A very important document that should be under lock and key.

Here's a link (from July 09) if you fancy a read up?
