    Thailand - Land Tax

Seems I'm due to pay some land tax, or my girlfriend is anyway, now I am assuming they assess the tax on land size and of course for not actually developing the land, something along the lines of sitting on the land for more than 5 years and not developing it? Could be wrong on that bit, they obviously don't realise the time I have spent sorting out the pond there, but I'm assuming they actually want to see a house built there and somebody living there, at present the land is divided into 2 plots, would it be better taking into account the 3,500baht per sub division to divide it into a lot more plots? I have been pondering the idea of dividing the small plot into 4 land titles, also last year there was cows on the land, could I say we are farmers and using it for our cows?

I've just had the local council round to assess my house for taxes, specifically water.
They said you got a 1200 liter water tank.
    That's gonna cost more.
Ermmmm......... Don't mean I use more water than anyone else, just means the water supply is not fucking reliable you crooks.

Can't imagine they were local council, probably just crooks trying to scam you, and obviously you having a water tank does mean you use more, people without water tanks can go for days without water as they have had to learn to do

Fuck, I don't even have a door bell so these idiots can't contact us, my friends know my phone number, they come round they phone me from downstairs, real easy, or if they have arranged a time to come round they just beep their horn one time, fucked if I would have a door bell.

I got dogs as a door bell.
If they know you they Bark "hello".
If not they bark "I'm gonna bite you",
If it's the latter I stay in bed.

Maybe you should have the missus contact the land taxation office and have them provide her with the details of what constitutes "development" and take it from there? You'd be able to see if any of the things you mentioned could be considered such, thus providing you (uh...her) with deductions.

She went down there today, it seems we owe for 2 years land tax, on being presented the bill she paid the 155baht in cash, hmmmm, if we had gone by car, it would have taken around 30 minutes each way, would have used more petrol than 155baht, plus waiting time to pay the tax, it hardly seems worth it, they check every 4 years for undeveloped land so if we don't do anything with it in the next 4 years we shall be presented with a bill of over 300baht, thats for just under 2 rai of land.

I once had to pay 7 baht import tax on two books my daughter had sent me

a guy came to the office with the bill, but I had to go to the post office to pay it and pick up the parcel. It was way over the other side of Bangkok, for some reason. They just sent the office boy in the car as they could trust him with 7 baht
