    Question Marriage Affidavit

Greetings members much wiser than me,

It is my understanding that there are no required documents to complete a "Marriage Affidavit" I now live on the East Coast but I was divorced in Hawaii. I was planning on going through the trouble of getting a certified copy of my divorce decree from Hawaii to show I was legally divorced. Conversations with others that have got the Affidavit said dont bother they dont ask for anything. It seems weird to me that I would not need to prove I was divorced. Can anyone who has recently completed the Affidavit please share thier expierience with me. Not sure if I am going to the Embassy BKK or CM yet.

    Thanks,

I know that they never have looked at any paperwork I have had as proof when ever I have went to the embassy in BKK or consulate in CM for any Thai required papers of any kind.
They just seem to take your word for it, but if you didn't have the paperwork, they might ask to see it..
    Better safe than sorry...........

    DIVORCE

I think it may just be another revenue producer. If you say you were divorced I understand you have to do another affidavit and pay for that as well but dont have to produce a decree. Kind of useless in my view. I may just convienently forget I was previously married and divorced. Is there anyway they can check your passport for marital status, as I was married when my passport was issued 8 yrs ago.

    I was divorced in Turkey.
i would have needed to translate the copy of my turkish decree absolute into English and then from English into Thai.
Didn't bother and nobody seemed to care.

I got married in CM by the way.

If you don't mention that you were married before, you'll be ok.

If you like making problems for yourself, tell them that you were married before, then spend a few hours and a few baht fucking around at your favourite embassy, before being told 'mai bpen rai'.
