Thread: What's the best A/C

The bedroom is 6m x 6m and 3m high.

The ceiling is insulate3d with 8 cm foil lined green stuff.

The walls are wood external but have been lined with plaster board/gyp rock stuff and painted.

Wooden floor.

I reckon a 12,000 BTU split system should do it.

Nope.

Our bedroom is 6x5 and A/C is 1300 BTU. It's adequate. The bigger the better in my opinion.

My bedroom's about 4m by 6m. It's 2.5m floor to ceiling, and there's no insulation above the plasterboard. Brick walls with plaster and rendering. Concrete floor with tiles. I've got a Mitsubishi Mr Slim (12,266 BTU) and it does the job just fine.

I worked out the KW needed for your room Janajoy according to my link and it says 4.91kw. That converted to BTU's is alot. But I was never good at sums.
Convert BTU to kW - British thermal units conversion to kilowatts

12k to 15k BTU will be fine.

Is it the silent one?

I would go for 12,000 BTU Mitsubishi, get an "Inverter" type, more expensive initially but will pay back quickly as far cheaper to run.

Advantages:- (they reckon!)

At least 30% - 50% cheaper to run as it consumes less power
Far quicker to achieve desired temperature
The start up time is reduced by 30%
Much quieter
No temperature fluctuations, maximising comfort level
No voltage peaks from compressor.

A good suggestion. Must keep in mind his walls are not insulated so moving to around 15k btu better.

Which it does automatically, when it reaches preset tempreture! where do you get the 15% from? not from experience if you dont have one and dont like them? I would guesstimate mine save around 25%, plus a longer compressor life as it is not in and out all the time!

So is mine and it's not an inverter as far as I'm aware. Bloody expensive though.

Mr Slim, bit noisy I thought, but bloody Arctic.

I think Daikin have been playing off of their brand name for a while now, some of their competitors hardware is just as good and 30-40% cheaper. I have all Sharp units in my current house and they've all been going three years without seeing a repair man once.

At the office we have Panasonic which I also had in an apartment I used to own, once again, cold, quiet and trouble free.

I think it's like comparing Toyota to Hyundai or KIA. In years gone by, Toyota was the safe bet, but now Hyundai & KIA cars are of equal quality but at a lower price are a far better value proposition. And as they none are considered 'prestige', who cares what badge they have stuck on the front.

I have one of the bedrooms in my house exactly that size.
The A/C engineer who cam to measure up for my six A/C units around the house fitted a Samsung 13000btu Micro Plasma Ion unit in that room it does the job superbly.

I would say that Daikin are the underdogs, not the top name brand

they are just as good as, say, Panasonic but a lot cheaper
anyway, I will let you know in 5 years (when the guarantee runs out) how it is doing

I know an aircon engineer who fitted me the Daikin for about B5000 cheaper than they were quoting

Wow, surprised by that, they're much more expensive here in Cambodia and really push themselves as a high quality brand.

The prices here for similar spec 9000btu fitted:

Daikin - $470
Sharp - $360
Panasonic - $400

Inverter a/c units are a waste of money unless the a/c unit is significantly large, used a lot & is accurately sized for the space to be cooled.
