Thread: Thought this might be a first here....

In designing my house I'm using one of the game editors for a game I like to play. I figured I'd put my knowledge in mapping to good use and design a level based on the land we have along with my wife's family's house.

The house on the left is my wife's family's house and the mock-up on the right is the design I'm developing. The nice thing about my method is I can startup the game and run around and see how things will look if it's built this way (hence the blue looking thing that looks like a flag in the image).

The real image of the corner of the wall is also show. It corresponds to the upper-right section of the wall behind the mock-up.

The length of wall I quoted to Boon Mee (240 meters) includes all the wall as shown. Prior to this the street was visible from the lot. Now it's enclosed.

All it's missing are the sword-bearing warriors and fire-breathing dragons.

BTW - the best way to get rid of bamboo is to use Glyphosate (RoundUp). Cut the bamboo so that the stumps are about 50 cm. Wait until they sprout and there is lots of new growth. Spray the leaves with Glyphosate. Repeat as long as the new growth continues to sprout. Eventually the entire clump, roots and all, will die. It takes a few months but it's a lot easier and a lot more reliable than trying to dig the stuff out.

Problem is that it will kill everything else it gets in contact with.

I do plan on planting many plants in the area, and, my brothers-in-law have plenty of spare time so I'll probably pass on the chemicals.

Well, it's not persistent, so it will only kill what it falls on. Stuff that grows later won't be affected. But, yeah, if you accidentally spray something else, you've got a few hours to wash it off and then you're done.

I'm not wild about chemicals myself. But, if that's the case, maybe Thailand is not the best country to settle in....

I think Issan would be more pristine due to lack of industry compared to down south (Saraburi > BKK).

There's no getting away from it in the U.S. Where I live right now they find fish with 3 eyes in the river due to all the agricultural pollution, sewage, creosote, etc.

Well, Korat hardly lacks industry. Seagate has a huge plant here. And, I think that agricultural chemicals are used quite extensively. Personally, I think that glysophate is pretty safe. Of course, there are those who argue otherwise so the overall picture is unclear.

I used it for years on Saipan because I couldn't control my hectare of jungle without it. Now that I have a postage stamp garden in a moo baan in Korat I haven't had a need for it....

I should have been more specific: Nong Khai. The only plant I've seen around there is a whiskey plant a few km from my wife's village.

That stretch of the Mae Khong is relatively unspoiled due to lack of human population on that part (aside from some cities far upstream in China...by the time the pollution reaches Laos/Thailand much has dissipated due to the aeration of the water by rapids...which, unfortunately, are being destroyed by China so large ships can go upstream).

There probably aren't many really clean places left in the world now.
