I don't know how your house layout is, if you have upstairs aso. but most people forget in the haste to secure their property, that it is quite nice to be able to get out to in case of fire ect. you could be so unlucky that your way of escape is blocked by fire or bad guys, and that you cant reach your children (if any) in another bedroom.
So get bars that can be opened from the inside/outside on your bedrooms.
They can be secured by very hefty padlocks where you keep a key in each bedroom.
