Agreed and for the garage area as well. Just trying to contribute something that maybe is worthwhile to others.

Noticed we dont get nearly as many bugs in the garden and cockroachers in the house. In fact haven't seen a roach in my new house for 6 months and since we moved in.

Missus loves the gardens, plants and flowers and cuts down on insect spray costs and the dangers of airborne inhalation of poison.

No, I wasn't being critical. It's a good idea. I think one of the big things to remember about concreting is that it's a bastard to dig up. Try to think ahead. We did a basket ball court at the last school and, just before pouring someone mentioned floodlights. Brilliant! we didn't have the money for them but we did lay conduit in the concrete with a string runner through it. A few months later we got some money, installed the floods and most of the cabling was underground. A lot neater than poles and stuff.

Agreed planning and foresight is most important and when planning the construction od anything.

Placement of electrical and gas conduit and piping for home entertainment speakers, cooker islands etc can save a lot of heatache and improve the fuctionability of a house no end.

Also place stormwater pipes and underground electric piping and on the common land on the driveway front boundry and in the event it is ever connected.

Yup, I was thinking he might want lights on the driveway, or maybe electric gates. Nows the time to get it organised.

What about guttering down each side of the driveway?

    I wonder if it's on a slope?

as mentioned, measure length x width x depth, but all in centimetres to get cubic metres after dividing by 6 zeroes

not like NASA who mixed up their units once!!

Blackgangs idea of the pre-fab mesh rather than rebar is the best just for a normal driveway, much faster and cheaper
    I have reported your post

If it has been designed by a Thai the diveway will probably be sloping straight back through the front door and at the wrong angle.

The first thing I brought here (and for my construction business) was a 2 metre long spirit level and an infra red level metre. Walls square and levels going in the right direction.

Not being apathetic against the Thais but most building sites don't have these necessary tools which make the job right the first time.

I know what you mean. We had a guy run a drainage pipe from the laundry out on to the back yard. a 10 m. run. I told him "1cm down for every m." Glazed eyes and lots of nodding.
I bought out the old spirit level and it was like Christmas in preschool.
He thought it was great. Did a good job so I gave him the level. Win -Win situation.

I have found that all the Thai workers we have employed have the necessary tools; for instance, a long piece of plastic tube with water inside gets you exact levels every time, and a plumb bob gives you perfect verticals

Saw some guys laying a warehouse floor and they threw the steel grids on after the concrete was poured, and just pressed it into the wet crete ..simple.
