Hmmm... I hoped it would come with the freon. &, I don't know what cobber is. Maybe the wife was right - it's not the job for me.
But, I will not be getting a Saiji-Denki or having the local aircon twat involved.
Replacing old aircon with Daikin inverter almost halved my energy bill
Is you marriage one of mutual exasperation?
Get a big bag of ice a nice bottle of Gin mix with the ice some tonic and a slice very nice way to cool down in the evening.
But we have had a Samsung unit for over 10 years being we live in Bangkok cleaned every 6 months and has been very reliable had to get something replaced last year think it cost 1000 baht to repair been working fine since then. To cold for Gert and our cat but perfect for me.

^ that is the cheapest option, t'is true.
^^ Excellent idea, as always. Hope you're felling well or at least better.
^ If she got a job, she'd fuk it up and end up costing me lots more money...
When you put it like that - yes it is. In fact, I might as well wear a skirt...
I did ask for aircon advice and got a good range of advice from folks, thank you. I'm still thinking. A new compressor is 5,300 baht installed, but I just wanna check if it'll work with modern and/or other machines/brands (say if the main unit breaks) and the LGs the wife bought are inverter models (I always presumed they were, but never actually checked as I was out of the country; my error, again...).
Cycling should be banned!!!
If 17 years old then they are probably not of inverter type, that's about the same time as they started to become somewhat available in Thailand but they were not so popular because they were more expensive.
If you are replacing an older type outdoor unit then don't think too much of the brand names, you can mix and match since they do after all contain the same components inside, a radiator, a fan, and a compressor. (many other brands btw bought their outdoor units from Mitsubishi)
A 12k btu Samsung outdoor unit will therefore run fine together with a 12k btu Mitsubishi or LG indoor unit as long as both are of non-inverter old style type.
You should be able to get a 2nd hand for a couple of thousand baht that will last until the indoor unit packs in, all aircon shops have them.

^ Thank you, makes good sense (and I wasn't sure/didn't have a clue...).
But...
1) If the compressor has gone that might have put stress on other parts and the internal unit might be on the way out too - it is very old anyways; it's done its job.
2) Ideally, I'd like a compressor unit. If I bodge it and get some crap hybrid then Murphy's Law dictates I'll end up living here for years without a properly working aircon. Decisions, decisions, I usually take a while then make the wrong one...
If the LG at Tesco is an inverter model (I think it said "double inverter") then I should just buy that in the sale. That seems the most sensible option after listening to the advice here.
Anything LG won't get into Molle's house after my last experience with them..
Bought a big washing machine from PowerBuy that was half price because it was "last years model" (actually it was last last years model) and it broke down after 3 years, the motor controller circuit board (the inverter) gave up.
That's when I found out that circuit board is no longer available, will never be produced again, and LG only commits to have spare parts available for 5 years after a model is introduced (not after it is sold) and my machine had passed that with a month or two.
Thieving bastards! Sorry, I thought I was in the Daily Moan thread..
I do hate LG after an experience in Korea, but as several posters noted: if these two LGs have worked for so long (and been in 4 different houses/apartments during that time - Chareonsanitwong (first bought before 2009, not exactly sure when, but could be as early as 2006), 2 in Bangmod then moved here in 2012) then it'd be a good idea to stick with the brand.
Just as a by-the-by, the wife bought 2 apartments in Chareonsanitwong (very basic studio ones) off the bank auction for 330,000 baht each - we knocked them through and made them quite nice, lived there for a few years then sold them at ok profit.
I have made an executive decision (despite the fact that the nasty female I live with has been calling me "kee naow" non-stop for the last hour since I made the decision...).
We were on our way to Tesco in the big smoke when we saw this:
So, we stopped to have a looksee and found aircons, cheaper then Tesco too. Went to the LG - 12,500 installed; sold out. Found a nice looking Toshiba - 12,000 installed; sold out. Hmmm... Then they show me some cheap crap and some Chinese crap (might actually be good nowadays, but I still don't want it), and mostly showed me expensive stuff... Then I spotted this:
That's the installed price, they cover our area for installation - &, the install guys will charge 500 baht for uninstalling the old machine (which I won't let them take away...) then as they're leaving, I'll ask them if they want to pay 1,000 for the old machine and hopefully settle on 500 baht.
I did a tad of research, basically Hitachi's second brand and made in Rayong along with a lot of other Japanese designed/Thai made machines sold here - it seems. Has a long warranty, so if it fuks up, then the wife can get them to fix it... The condenser replacement was 5,300 baht, so this just seemed a better deal.
A bit of a shot in the dark, I expect some flak from you mongrels - no offence...
Didn't cost a lot, I hope not to be living here much longer anyways. I'm quite happy with that - it'll be installed tomorrow and not by the local con artist who tried to sell the wife some non-inverter machine for 13,000 baht...
Also, the shop was only 20 mins up the road, huge and sells everything at decent prices; much cheaper than Tesco. I had to usher the wife out quickly before looking around. Some of the power tools, high quality, looked bloody brilliant. Massive double fridges, Toshiba for 35,000 baht looked very nice. But, the plan is to spend as little money as possible here.![]()

I would ask them to remove those stickers with your Mrs hairdryer when they install them
I like the stickers - they are staying.
It feels good not spending much money. I hope it works. But, if it doesn't then they'll have Mrs Boo to deal with not only by phone, but it's so close she can go up there and use her very best skills: complaining, being unpleasant and breaking down people's will to live.![]()
