    Veranda Door Locks

Hi, my veranda door lock is a bitt worn down so you think its locked and it takes a couple times for the catch to catch....going into Global the guys said it needs entire door replaced...
Surely you can at least buy better locks for the slot in Thailand, better than the stock crappy stuff on this one... ?!

Easy to replace the lock. Best take it out and check the style, most commonly they are like a thick hook that rotates upwards when the key is turned. You need the same style and the same size, obviously. Take the original with you to Global or Thai Watsadu. Or look on Lazada. A couple of hundred Baht, probably.

FWIW, verandah door locks are rubbish security. I knew someone in a house on The Peak in HK who claimed to have lost over USD1M of jewellery when burglars broke that cheap lock, takes ten seconds witha chisel and a heavy hammer. The problem is, if you actually want to upgrade rather than replace like for like then the Global salesperson is correct, you'd need a new door set. But what is the point of an expensive lock on a glass door?

The doors look misaligned? if you level them up the existing lock may work perfectly.

That made me look at the picture. It does look misaligned. Hard to tell but it looks as if the mechanism has dropped a little over time. The colouration just above it looks different. Might be worth getting a screwdriver on that mechanism and adjust the height in the door a little.

Most standard Thai metal doors have adjustment screws , Sometimes like my upper deck, it's easier though heavier to lift out of the runners , a vernier or a piece of string can measure the diff.

If these are the least secure part of your property you may choose metal grill layer door inside or out, However in bunglaows any determined pro burglar can enter via most roofs

A dog or barking partner may solve most security issues.

    Good luck
