Ranting over a roof

As many of you know I have worked at building a teakhome up in Central Thailand. A few mistakes were made along the way, but just recently the biggest fokup occured.

First let's go back in time and see how the house looked when it was initially finished.

The house was positioned this way to gain full advantage of looking at the Nan River. The only problem was the afternoon sun which tended to heat up the porch and the living room.

So about a month ago we decided to extend the roof over the front porch. The plan was to use top notch builders. So far so good. However, on this project I was not going to be on site.

Here is a look at what they have been doing. Do you notice anything amiss?

I'm curious to know why you extended the roof at the side. Wouldn't extending the roof at the front only have solved the problem?

Here is a hint. The construction aspect was okay. Here is another clue. The painters used the wrong foking paint!

We had contracted to use the original painter. Normally this old guy is really on top of things and gets the job done correctly. However, this time he sent out dumb fok Somchai to paint.

Yea, I know about weathering and all that. However, this is the deal. Somchai used an orange stain because that is what they always use to finish off teak homes in this area.

Talk about not being able to think outside the foking box. I yelled at the the painter boss over the phone and he kept say relax.

Right now, I am in a quandry with what to do! Dumb assess!

I told everyone concerned, tear the shit down and do it over again and I ain't paying shit. Realistically, this won't work. Dumb foks!

What about the difference in colour of the tiles, or, is that just weathering?

Originally, I had argued about painting the house with what seemed the entire 'mooban'. I did not want the customary orange stain, I wanted a natural look stain. Everyone thought I was crazy.

When the original painting was done, people said that it was amazing. Some people even copied our look.

Now dumb fok Somchai has ruined my million baht home with a 5,000 baht paint job.

I can understand your frustration but having only the colour to complain about could be considered something of a luxury?

Hillbilly, after living here so many years, you knew this was going to happen, so why take the chance ? you lucky the stupid bastard didn't collapse the roof.

Your only chance is to have someone different do and repaint the whole roof and the edges with it,

Is it not possible to reverse the tiles (painted side down).

No! Once the nails have been driven through then the roof tile is pretty well-foked.

Have, I mentioned the dumb fok Somchai.

I get tired of ignorant dumb foks with a 6th grade education.

I know how you feel, there is always a breaking point for us. I think you have reached it. Always question of time. And yes they are idiots, but there is nothing we can do, and we must accept that fact. And no it will never change

Ehm: Sanding it down and re-staining it?

Alternatively, you do everything again and try to get the same (but darker) tint. Over time it will look okay again I think?

Fortunately its YOUR house so you don't have to look at it as you're mostly on the inside.

Please don't update your avatar so we don't have to look at your paint job, but I guess that goes without saying. :P

are you talking about the "paint" on the roof tiles? the two parts do look different but after a while you will give your neck a rest and won't notice a thing

maybe you should be ranting at yourself for not realising that the sun makes things hot! then you would have done all the roof at the same time.... running for the door....

Stains are alchohol based usually and soak in quite a bit, to sand down all those roof tiles will be a major job as they overlap and are so small, only thing he has to look forward to is that in 6 months to year the sun should have bleached it light enough to restart again

Good thinking. Clean up the gene pool a little.

DD's comment about redoing in a year seems the only practical choice. Suggest you bite the bullet and restain the old roof in Somchai orange or after a year it may still look like orange caramel ripple ice cream.

What about the line of the extension. It doesn't follow the old line. Is that a mistake? Also there is a gap between the wood trim where they connect (pick, pick, pick).

The fok should have tried it in a small unnoticable spot before he did the entire roof that way. But even still he wouldn't have noticed because your just a picky farang in his mind, it never would have bothered him a bit because it's over his head...
