The local diy megastore didn't stock the foam retardant insulation required so I improvised and purchased a stapler with 2000 staples to pin in the potential car boot crap for next bank holiday, I reckon I've saved a couple of hundred quid with that move alone.

Couple of tips re plastering and painting.

Take your time with the plaster/Gyprock/dry wall joints.
Make sure they are taped.
Almost no sanding is involved
Should take maybe 3/4/5 applications of plaster to go from bare joint to a smooth joint ready for painting.
Let the plaster dry a couple of days between each application to dry properly.
I'm no expert there, but about a year ago, I had my ceiling redone as it had dropped slightly in parts,
and the husband of a Thai Lassie we know is a Plasterer, good guy and happy to discuss the process.

Then, you have to seal that joint ... and that something I know well, have painted numerous houses
and tenant repairs.
With the plaster joint/seam, first apply a paint sealer, then an undercoat then a top or colour coat/s.
You can use a combined sealer/undercoat - combined undercoat/top coat ... but I've not tried them before.

Don't think, for a second that you can just use normal paint over the plaster.
I had a tenant put a basketball through a wall, they paid for the repair but not the painting.
Small country town, Hardware was a long drive away and thought I could get away with it ... Nope.
Maybe 7 or 8 coats of paint later and you can still see the mark.
The colour is there after 2 coats, but the plaster sucks the moister out of the paint and the shine is lost.

What ever colour you choose for the wall, when looking at a sample, it always looks darker when applied
over a larger area.
If you are using a gloss for the trim and door, a popular method was to get a double tint of the wall colour
for the trim/door colour.

Safety first ... speed second.

Chitty when you do one partition you will have the skills to easily split the other two bedrooms.

Yeah, heaven knows where he got the diagonal strut idea, vertical studs and horizontal nogging are the norm for structural as well as practical purposes.

It's probably too late now to change. BUT...we can improvise.
Chitty, what you have to do is make sure you've got horizontal and vertical points to fix the wall board to. I'm assuming 1200 wide wallboards? Add some vertical and horizontal nogs at strategic places along the width of your wall so that all wallboards finish at the center of a vertical, all along the length of the wallboard, and the same idea with horizontal nogs where the wallboard ends, top and bottom.

Alternatively, and a whole lot messier, would be to cut your wallboards according to your frame. I don't reccomend this way, but it can be done.

Actually, I think that may have been how they framed walls back in the day when vertical planks and scrim were used before pre-formed platerboards.

I'll go out on a limb and guess CCC was given advice from an old old carpenter, or saw an old wall or partition demolished when he was younger.

Would have been less hassle (and cheaper) to simply put the kid up for adoption.

First time I've seen herringbone stud walls and plasterboard fixed vertically, but there's always a first time for everything. Maybe thats how Charles Rennie Mackintosh got started, as he was bit unconventional.

Why the fuk would you want to split up the master bedroom in a house which is normally a main selling point being the biggest bedroom? Ok looking at it obviously no ensuite but still seems madness to me, where ever you live could have changed that 3 bed into a lovely 4 bed new build in Crewe!!!!!!!!!

The second bedroom is only slightly smaller than the largest bedroom, the boys have been sharing that, but now it's time for a change, they need their own space!

Would love to have a new build 4 bed ,but we have roots here so this is the cheaper alternative.

A four bed in my neck of the woods is pushing £350K whereas a three bed is £250K+.

The main exterior walls are double bricked with cavity wall insulation.
The artic/ roof has a metre of insulation.

Even bodging is hard graft, no wonder tradesmen have so many tea breaks to keep them going and recharge the batteries.
