The local diy megastore didn't stock the foam retardant insulation required so I improvised and purchased a stapler with 2000 staples to pin in the potential car boot crap for next bank holiday, I reckon I've saved a couple of hundred quid with that move alone.
The stapler and staples cost £4.99![]()
Chitty when you do one partition you will have the skills to easily split the other two bedrooms.
6 bed Salford mansion mate, you could rent it out to Alexis Sánchez and retire.![]()
Looks like you're doing a neat job there.
Yeah, heaven knows where he got the diagonal strut idea, vertical studs and horizontal nogging are the norm for structural as well as practical purposes.
It's probably too late now to change. BUT...we can improvise.
Chitty, what you have to do is make sure you've got horizontal and vertical points to fix the wall board to. I'm assuming 1200 wide wallboards? Add some vertical and horizontal nogs at strategic places along the width of your wall so that all wallboards finish at the center of a vertical, all along the length of the wallboard, and the same idea with horizontal nogs where the wallboard ends, top and bottom.
Alternatively, and a whole lot messier, would be to cut your wallboards according to your frame. I don't reccomend this way, but it can be done.
Actually, I think that may have been how they framed walls back in the day when vertical planks and scrim were used before pre-formed platerboards.
I'll go out on a limb and guess CCC was given advice from an old old carpenter, or saw an old wall or partition demolished when he was younger.
Would have been less hassle (and cheaper) to simply put the kid up for adoption.

Best of luck, Chitty. I have no idea about DIY house things..
A man that works with his hands is always sexy though.![]()
Just checking in to see if your ok mate
Have you brought the house down yet?![]()
Buying carpet with a hangover from hell... no need for underlay....Chittys top tip ...leave the old carpet down, put the new one on top
Gonna need some more advice later, if I get time before watching the Gunners get mullered by the only team to come from Manchester.
Fired up with sound advice and encouragement from the members on here, i ploughed on for a few hours today..
The clock is ticking, i budgeted 15 days to get this job done and i've got four left. SOS
Second match of the day is kicking off soon so today is probably a write off, no way i'm bodging after being on the sauce.
It's all a bit Pete Tong
Second door needs shearing
That bloody light fitting needs moving, there are 8 wires inside it
Best get me minions to work, tbf they have pulled there weight on this job.
Coving and painting going well in room 1
Door hung, what a fooking ball ache!! Shaved every side and got it hung, sitting pretty now.
Need to sort out the frame and skirting boards now1 All ruddy money,,,
Hit the £500 budget today buying the carpet.
Got some filling and skimming and maybe some coving to do before the match...
Good luck with it mate, just rmember with the joints, fixing it's like marriage and sex in a pool, always united !!
First time I've seen herringbone stud walls and plasterboard fixed vertically, but there's always a first time for everything. Maybe thats how Charles Rennie Mackintosh got started, as he was bit unconventional.
Why the fuk would you want to split up the master bedroom in a house which is normally a main selling point being the biggest bedroom? Ok looking at it obviously no ensuite but still seems madness to me, where ever you live could have changed that 3 bed into a lovely 4 bed new build in Crewe!!!!!!!!!
The second bedroom is only slightly smaller than the largest bedroom, the boys have been sharing that, but now it's time for a change, they need their own space!
Would love to have a new build 4 bed ,but we have roots here so this is the cheaper alternative.
A four bed in my neck of the woods is pushing £350K whereas a three bed is £250K+.
A few more pics from today's DIY disaster zone..
The 2000th staple doing it's insulating work.
Any ideas how to fill this space?
The £100 carpet ready to be laid reduced from £345
Coving turned out ok
Using coving adhesive to do the job of plaster, filling in gaps with a Platinum card!
TBC
Wafer thin walls but still better than most crappy British B&B's
The main exterior walls are double bricked with cavity wall insulation.
The artic/ roof has a metre of insulation.
Need it oop norf![]()
CCC you'll definitely get a job as a cowboy builder Dom is looking for you ,
I couldn't be arsed being a cowboy builder!
Even bodging is hard graft, no wonder tradesmen have so many tea breaks to keep them going and recharge the batteries.
Fooking graft!! Be glad to go back to work for a rest
Actually broke a sweat putting the carpet down, ruddy ball ache it was...
It's still not 100% right, doors need shaving again, argggg!
Time for a break![]()
Getting there Chitty, surprised your sober enough today after the game.
You should be using joint tape on them boards £3.50 from Toolstation
Been on the sauce every night since the job started, not long now and I can get back to my healthy, working, stress free lifestyle
Cheers for the tip Jack, but I'm sticking to my budget now ando relying on the wallpaper and paint to hide the cracks![]()
You'll have to take the wall back down to fit the bed in.
