I don't fancy getting out onto the roof and trying to take the compressor cover off and poking about with stuff I know nothing about, let the experts have a look. That is not idiots with a screwdriver or most of them that do the cleaning, not come across anyone who ever heard of the dye, this aint Kansas.

Are you in a hurry? I can pop down to the local A/C supplies shop and see. BUT you can only see it with UV/black light. I'm thinking the locals use soapy water.

One can also buy AC leak sealer but where?

Why dont you just buy a new one and get the suppliers to install it, with a guarantee ?

They dont cost that much and you will probably spend as much messing around with the one you have now.

Could probably even sell the old one or try and use it as a trade.

It's not four years old and cost 22.5k so I don't see that making economic sense just yet. Suppliers installed this one, power buy- not recommended

My first A/C unit was installed and the same night it wouldn't get cold. Wife phoned the installer and the same two guys who fit it came around next day. Messed around with it a little only to report that there was a leak. Before they'd repair it they wanted assurances we'd pay 500 Baht for the refilling. I hit the roof ranting this and that but they were adamant I had to pay the 500 or no repair. The missus coughed up.

Just an update on Somchai the retard AC cleaning Walla.

Yesterday My Handbag says to me, come here darlink, I want to show you something.

She was lookin at the AC, Never a good sign this one.

So out I go and low and behold Wanker Somchai has snapped the corner from the cover that hides the gas refill nozzle.

Fokin tosser only need take undo one screw and slide the cover downwards.

A fookin retard could of done this without snapping the cover.

Fuk it, I'm going back to Australia, I'm over this shit.

well Mitsubishi men just left after 1.5 hours. First thing they said was it's too close to the ceiling, should be a least 20 cm, other one is almost flush to the ceiling. Next no leak in fact too much gas, and they took some off, cheap cleaner was cheating us on the fill ups not needed, what a surprise.
Mrs still against them doing owt as too expensive, I told them to get on with it. Took it off the wall into the garden, stripped it right down and cleaned with chemicals. Although regularly cleaned not done properly. Now it's colder and quieter and I actually got a thank you, you were right to get them in from the mrs. Well I was not right about the leak, but who would have thought a Thai would lie to us, and a neighbor too!

1100 baht altogether but it's 650 from now on if you pay for cleans upfront- 10% discount for parts if needed so paid for a further 2. Very professional and knowledgeable, 3 came and not idiots with screwdrivers either. Don't bugger about with it yourself or employ idiots on the cheap, get people in who know what they are about.

Replaced 3 out of the 5 air cons I have a few months ago, it was fucking hot and they all started playing up at the sametime, also got sick of somchais turning up and spending 3 fucking days to service them. They were 15 years old and about the size of a Volkswagen. Got some nice whisper quiet ones half the size but with the same BTU , grinning like a large dog now

Often fitted too close to ceilings, re gassing is usually a scam, cleaning filters regularly is essential and easy to do yourself. I like the farangs blaming Somchai but they don't bother to educate themselves about something as simple as air cons. Every five years buy a new one.

A/c is not really simple and not to be messed with unless you know what you are doing, bit like cars. Not just cleaning filters the whole thing was filthy and had to be taken apart, all because somebody who thought he knew what he was doing did not. Even these blokes had to come back today, forgot to connect something back up and it actually was leaking. Ac should last at least 10 years unless it's something crap like Samsung or York.

If the gas is down it's not a scam is it. One needs to educate ones self to what the required pressure is. Then if Somchai the retard tries to pull one on you can tell him to fok off.

Cleaning the filters is piss easy but there is a lot more required than that. For a proper clean one needs to get in there with a pressure washer, clean the internal parts and flush it through until the water runs clear.

Exactly what the tosser who done my clean recently did not do.

The little turd working with him did not dry the AC properly and it leaked water until the AC itself dispersed the remaining water.

Dumb Mother Foes I tell ya.

So I got a big dirty Hand-print on my wall, a cracked cover, not dried properly and a cursory flush of the system.

    Onya Somchai you Coont.

I think I've been Psychologically damaged by Somchais work.

I mean I'm pretty fooked up as it is but this recent episode has really sent me over the edge.

Just make sure that he only has the pressure clocks connected, not the tank, when checking the pressure. Otherwise Somchai may leave with more gas in the tank then when he arrived.

    ^

After my last 7 cleans I would not put it past Somchai the Retard to steal the AC unit and leave a fan in its place.

A airconditioner like a fridge has a sealed unit and should not need topping up with gas ever unless it has a gas leak, the leak should be found and repaired before the gas is topped up and should not need topping up again unless another leak develops, usually a fractured pipe or broken or loose fitting
How often does your fridge stop cooling, works on the same system

    ^ not strictly true.

Common AC here comes in two parts which are connected with copper tubing when installed. Then the gas is added by the installer.

Fridge is a one piece unit which is filled with gas and tested before it leaves the factory. There is no installation it is simple placed on a level surface and plugged in. If it was shipped lying down which is a no-no it should be left for a while upright before being plugged in.

The only case where the above is not true is in the case of the window mounted AC units of old. Which again are delivered in one piece.
You should never allow yourself to be held back merely by not knowing anything at all about anything.

My office split level aircon went down, so work provided me one of those. Great thing. Well, except that to vent the hot air - you have to open a window and stick the exhaust hose out.

All seemed vaguely self defeating somehow......

Thought same. Handy for emergency but useless for permanent use.
