If insulation, maintenance & security were non-issues, I would buy a timber home YESTERDAY!
They have character & a distinctive aroma.
    Unfortunately, I am a realist.
    Just smell that concrete!

In Oz, "traditional", 50 yo homes fetch a tidy sum. 100+ yo old - too much! But we do not live in Oz.

I did not even consider that option.

I hope you enjoy your choice. Insure it for a bundle. If it becomes unsuitable, just put a match to it.

BEAUTIFUL Thai house 6kon! I too had thought of building a traditional teak house (see my avatar) at one time. That is until I found out how much it would cost to build one the way I wanted - with modern conveniences and all. PLUS, you're on the beach. Good living!

Terp: Thanks. This little house wasn't that expensive since its relative small and we got very good help from BIL in building it. The land cost was much much higher than the building cost, but I wanted a place near the ocean not to far from tourist areas but not in the middle of it...

I'd say you achieved your goal 6Kon.

Ours was opposite, land was inexpensive and house build is higher but we should both be enjoying the easy life.

Thanks for sharing the build process. Nice cross section of folks doing some nice builds.

A picture from the backside of the house:

I guess the water from the shower is just going out in the ground the thaiway
Have to check that its not just a open hole in the bathroom
I don't want a cobra getting in that way, like it did once my daughter was going to the toilet for a visit. luckily she saw it before she went in.

A tradition Queenslander made out of Hardie planks would be more to your liking?

Hoops, you know an awful lot about Oz - particularly Queensland.
Yes, you are correct if residing in the newer working class suburbs.
Have a gander at the older inner suburbs. Some are $5m+.

Wife talked with BIL and he said house can be hot at sunny daytime, so he asked if he should install AC also, so we decided to install AC. He will also install a heater for the shower.

Next Monday we'll be there to move into the house. I'll take a lot of pictures then

6kon. I love your house. It's just beautiful. Makes me second-guess my build up in CM. Ah well, we'll opt for renting a place at the beach once in a while. Congratulations!

BIL working hard now with cleaning up after the build process. It was a lot broken nails and other garbage he told us. He really want us to be happy with his work when we arrive in a few days.

I had some trouble to activate internet on my mobile. But now I'm online and in my new house

I have spend 2 nights there now and it has been nice. Still sleeping without curtains..I love the house. The sleeping rooms are a bit smaller than I thougt, but still big enough for me. It has been strong winds from the ocean so its not easy to see how it is when its not blowing. But I'm glad there is a shorewall to keep the ocean away from my land

I'll see if I can download some pictures later.

We have some nice neighbours, but they have now sold their land, and moving out in march. Since we don't know the new owner we have filling up the border line to that plot. So we have some trucks with dirt today to level the land there before we set up some fence on the land.

The new owner of the land wanted that we shared land to build a road as he is planning to build houses for sale and the 2 rai plot is only 20m wide at the front like ours, but since we are not planning to build other house for selling, we said that we didn't want to do that.

No one knows who has the chanote to the land on the other side of us I was told the chanote was lost as it was used for borrow some money. They have tried to trace where it is, but they guess its in some coffin and the holder might not know he/she got it

    QC thanks

Today the sealevel was high, and the waves sometimes went over the seawall and some dirt was washed away near the seawall. I am happy the seawall is there. I hope the wind from north will weaken. It has been strong wind since we arrived a week ago.

We needed to protect the stair from rain as it had no roof so BIL made a roof over it. I'll put some picture of it when I come back in January.

Today BIL and some other members of the family has worked on a fence and will finish it tomorrow on the south and west side of the plot as we know we get new neigbours there that we know plans to build there. that work will continue tomorrow, and preparing the powerline to the grid as we now borrow electricity and water from the nice neighbour that have sold their land. We should hopefully get connected in 2 weeks.

Wife picked up a lot of green stuff to fill in the garden that she will plant tomorrow, and in the evening we will have a christmas party with family.
