I think an 8x8m verandah is a bit excessive.

It's all about wasting as little money as possible now.
Turn them into maypoles. No Englishman's country retreat is complete without one.

We've made a small change to the plans. I'm not happy because it'll cost me another shower room and a few more blocks, but it makes more sense as we can utilise 2 more existing posts that I don't need to remove (which also costs money).

So we will move bedroom 1 out by 2m and add an en-suite. This will be our room on the one or two times a year we will stay there. Looks like Mum & Dad will doss in Bedroom 3 and bedroom 2 will have 2 single beds in it for the kids. there will only be AC in bedrooms 1 & 2, as the old folks don't like it.

The dotted line/shaded area is the roof overhang.

Looks nice, and functional. Don't forget to build a nice little sala for drinking a beer or two...

If it was me, I'd create a very much larger area to park the car, for safety's sake...

Much more comfortable with an outdoor extension for imbibing - foyer, patio, open garden, etc. Needn't enclose oneself when taking in a beverage...

Nice Marmers. Assume the al fresco area is used for cooking?

Even Marmite should've got the message by now...

One of the benefits of country living is a nice outdoor space (I presume...) to relax and watch nothing happen while drinking a beer and playing your guitar.

You forgot to mention: avoiding the inlaws; certainly gonna be cozy in there. I think the TV will always be tuned to Thai TV, loudly; the nice gameshows, political programs, Thailand's got talent, and the such...

You'll need a big outside area with a bar and satellite TV for the rugby.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

OK, let me have another crack at it. Small steps I think Betty

Marmite, if you were to extend the roof of your alfresco area forwards by about 2 metres then you would be able to use two of the pillars you will otherwise be taking out, and won't have to put a new pillar in on the corner of the al fresco. - i.e. the bits I've added in green below:

You might need to work out some way of hinging the metal gate, but you could probably do that from a roof beam and a fairly solid hinge at the base of the door attached to the floor/sink a hole into the floor and use that. Alternatively if you are putting the half walls on the side of the al fresco then you might be able to do something to hinge it off that.

All in all you'll probably only need about 7.5m2 more roofing area which should be cheaper than messing about with the existing pillars.

If you wanted to break up the roofline a bit then just extend the al fresco roof by 1.5 metres (i.e. it covers your pickup truck to about the back of the cab level). It would still allow you to use the existing pillars - and would only need about 5.5sqm more roofing material...

Not sure what you have in mind for the al fresco but suggestion. Could save some money on roof design. Simplifies. Dimensions are as per your plan.

But I don't want to add any more pillars. Those new green ones are not on my plans because they're not there.

Here's a plan of the posts. The new house is using the posts towards the right.

Well. That's settled. My suggestion no good. Have to add a column. May not have to move one though.

Nice effort, but the roof will be tin with a much simpler profile. Not sure if you can work it out from this amateurish rendition of the front of the place or not. And yes, the bit over bedroom 1 is a bit odd - not sure if there's a better solution for it.

The Al Fresco area will have a 4ft wall on the south and east sides with a steel gate on the west side. Above the wall may be wire chain link welded in there or some of those nasty blocks with the big holes in. I prefer the chain link fence idea as it will be airier, but secure.

Good job. Apart from the roof 'issue'. there's a door into BR 2 that opens the wrong way and the single beds go in BR 2 not 3.

Oh, another thing is that the 2 southernmost posts are only 2.5m, not 3.0m tall, due to how the old place was going to be done.

Sorry. I did read that but my memory is awful. Plus I like to have a laugh at your expense...

I wanted lots of outdoor and overhanging roofline, then the FiL took me for a walk, showed me a nice sala on the neighbours. He said (but in Thai...) "Fill in your roofline to make extra space inside the property. Then get the builder to make a nice wooden sala to your specification." I says (not sure what language I used...) "ok, but how much will the sala be?" FiL says (in Thai) "Nothing. I'll get the builders to do it in downtime, they can throw in the wood too; or we'll cut a tree down or get some wood from somewhere..."

Get yeeself a nice sala, mate. Beer, bbq, book, guitar. Luuuuuuurvelli!

I must admit, I do like Norton's idea and will think upon it some more. We're soon to hear back from the roof guy with our quotes, so I'll get the Midget to talk to him then.

And Betty - if Por wants a Sala, he can build his own one.

^ I'll be at home playing with the Midget. Por will have to find another drinking buddy.

Some stuff to show your builder. Should give him idea of what you are looking for.
