    What printer for me ?

I've a McBook pro, a wireless network, an iPad and a Sony notebook that I still use on a daily basis.
Vendor wants to sell me a cheap HP all-in-one printer (fax/Scan/printer), sounds good to me, but says I need to attach it to a computer. I don't have any fix computer and I wish to be able to print through the wireless network. Any solution for me ?

I have an HP Deskjet F4480 (Scan/Print/copy) which I think is very good. But, it's hooked into a fixed computer so that doesn't help with your question. But, I quite like the printer. I do, however, have a wireless connection if that makes any difference.

I think it's the solution but I'm a bit worry about the compatibility Mac/Sony/Printer/wireless router. A lot of fun in perspective when I going to connect the printer to the network then try to print from each of the computers ....

Go and look at the specs for the model in which you're interested, and check on the manufacturers website to see if it does what you need.

Don't buy a HP, they're cunts. I've had two over the years and both went the same way, they get a software malfunction where the printer won't recognise the 'puter. You have to erase and reload the program, a bastard when you're working with a netbook or on a schedule. Can't remember how the prompt syntax goes, error//xd3mgnblahblah//yourhpprinterisfucked most likely, but a google of the error message opens up a world of internet misery, those poor people, stuck in HP purgatory. The helpdesk are cunts and the ink is the most expensive. The last one got carried outside, and then smashed and kicked around the back yard. POS!

Get an Epson, my SX515W is excellent.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

    ^ Yep, Epson

I had an Epson DX4200 for years

Compatible ink only cost a pound each too

Kids threw a few biros in it which led to it's demise

^ Actually the ink (cost) is also one of my major concern.

That we can find "compatible" ink is a major advantage

It depends on what you want to do with the printer. If you are mainly printing colour documents I would recommend a brother MFP, other printers have better photo matching for pictures.

Ive been using one for years with pc's, mac's (iPad though iprint). you can print and scan over the network and send faxes. You can use ink tanks, simply by replacing the brother cartridges with tank cartages... no messing around with pipes to the print heads....

As for HP's the days when you could buy a hp printer with confidence are long gone

The only con is that they are prone to head blocking if they are left turned off for any length of time.

Fuck knows. Here are the most popular at Amazon.

    Color Lasers

Suggest you go and click on a few and price up the consumables.

    I thought that as well.

In fact, everyone who buys an iPad should get a free slap for being so fucking dumb. If you really want to demean yourself, get one of those MacAir rip offs (with a free cricket bat in the face).

No offense taken. I would have to care about what you say for that.

Yip! how did you guess! A nice rum drink called Appleton Estate Jamaican Rum. Cheaper than a good whiskey but smooth enough to have the desired effect without whincing

Woke up now. One more jet lagged weekend and then the rugby is over! Still don't know which printer to buy?

Just bought a small Canon printer. All the functions required and was the cheapest in the shop (about 2,500 Bahts), paper and ink included. I'll try to install it tonight and will post if I find any problem.

They're all cheap to buy. But how much is replacement ink? This is where printer manufacturers make their money.

I read somewhere, the most expensive liquid in the world is Printer Ink, costs more than rocket fuel and liquid gold

Next time you moan about the price of oil or Petrol just think,

HP printer ink works out at $ 8000 a gallon
