    which mobile modem ?

    Hi everyone .
For the last 3 years I have been using a Solomon Edge mobile modem for my internet connection .
Unfortunately I feel as though it is on its last legs as they say .
Could anyone tell me where it would be possible to buy a replacement , or if not a Solomon could anyone advise on an alternative model .
Are all mobile modems the same ?
As you may already be able to guess I am not over familiar with this sort of technology so any input into the best way to go regarding internet connections would be appreciated .
I live near Nong Khai so any outlet near there that sold them would be helpful to know also .

    Thanks in advance
    Rawky

I can advise you what not to buy; I bought one of those 1080 baht AIS modems from Tesco. I thought it would be fast enough for my netbook, but it's so slow it's frustrating. I also had a Solomon before and it was faster. The software on the AIS modem works much better than the old Solomon did, with the Solomon I was always getting error messages and having to pull the modem out so Windows could re-detect it. The AIS has worked perfectly, but it's slow. They have 2 higher priced models that are (of course) more expensive, but still reasonable.

I use Ovation MC727 modem with CAT Telecom CDMA account. At 3.1 Mbps not the fastest but does the trick for me.

Kills your battery though. I'm lucky to get a full days use outta my phone now after using it as a modem for a few months.

Bought the AIS usb modem for 3K and works the same as my usb modem I paid 1500 baht for, I really dont think it matters as I had been using one I bought in the middle east for two years ago and it really doesnt seem to matter, depends more on signal strength

DFear - thanks that looks like what I need; we're on the fringe of coverage, often none at all (Edge/AIS 12call aircard), yet at a friend's place 3km away get the '5' signal strength, works fine.
