    Question PC Language problem

On my last trip to LOS I purchased a netbook from a Thai friend of mine, only 6 months old and hardly used, I have ditched all the rubbish off it that I didn't need and reset a lot of the settings, my problem is that when I connect to MSN all the script is in Thai, incoming e mails have the Thai date attached them, and one or two other niggling little things like that, I have tried numerous times to get it all to reset in English to no avail.

It's an Acer One, a nice little machine and works well with all applications, can anyone tell me how (if possible) I can get it all to be in English, MSN is not too much of a problem because when I sign in it goes to my homepage which is in English, it's the log in page which is in Thai so I cant read any messages that MSN might generate. Any help would be fantastic.

I presume that because it was built for the Thai market a lot of this is embedded and not possible to change !!!
The person that said "Nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to slam a revolving door !!

    Hi Thetyim & DD

Yep did that, I did'nt download Firefox (which is what I use these days after all the scares with Microsoft) until I got home, no joy there I'm afraid regional settings set for UK etc, languages set for English UK there are a couple of settings which give me limited options ie: French or Thai only but I cannot remember where, I will have another look and write the different areas down, I posted the O P while at work and not on my netbook.

Thanks for your input so far, if you think of anything else I would be ever so humble and grateful

If there was a firefox installed whilst you were in Thailand, when you re - download it it keeps the initial main settings from the previous installation, need to delete and then clean install it.

^^^ Nope, no Firefox installed before I got home, I have a feeling that some settings are embedded because it was built for the Asian market, what do you think ?

Log in online to MSN live, check your regional settings there, mine was set to Thailand, my new netbook I purchased a few weeks ago whilst here in England had Thai script on MSN when I installed it, changing my location to Australia sorted the language issue.

The problem I have is that on the sign in page it's all in Thai (which I can't read) so I will try msn live regional settings but I think that is the one where I have a choice of Thai or french, and I can't read or speak either very well (or not at all for reading)

Thanks for the info though, I'm gonna go and look now

Not a good idea after a few beers

Last resort if you don't have anything that you can't reload, copy all the files you need and do a clean install of the operating system. That will wipeout everything

I would have done this even if everything was working OK.

    To Show the Language Bar

To show the Language bar (using Classic view in Control Panel):
    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Regional and Language Options.
    2. On the Languages tab, under Text services and input languages, click Details.
    3. Under Preferences, click Language Bar.
    4. Select the Show the Language bar on the desktop check box.

Then open it and delete Thai language completely.
