Try downloading a free anti spyware program.
Google - Spybot search and destroy.
download malwarebytes. That has fixed every stubborn virus etc I have ever gotten. I have the professional version and it protects my puter too.
let me know..
You can also try booting to safe mode and running a full scan, Avast may be able to clean it off then.
Windows XP Cleaning Procedure - MajorGeeks Support Forums
go to this link and follow the instructions, this is for XP, but they have instructions for vista and 7 somewhere too.
it uses 3 or 4 anti virus programmes ( including malwarebytes) to thoroughly rid your system of intrusions.
got to follow the instructions to the letter though.
Or you could do this:
Rootkit.Win32.Qandr.hd Removal Instruction - SpyDig - Best Anti-spyware. Easy to Use. Free Malicious Programs Scan
And then make sure you update your antivirus on your PC and keep it updated! (Microsoft Security Essentials is free and works well with Windows Defender).
And while you are at it, apply your Windows Updates, you lazy sod.

Avast, Avira and AVG produce false positives fairly often.
As above Malwarebytes seems to be the most trusted.
when you have been rooted , the only failsafe way is to re-install from a safe disk.
backup and wipe
do you know what you installed to allow the rootkit to get its hooks in ?
^ some kinda wicked porn amplifier maybe.
Ctr Alt Del works everytime for me, try it!
That's for spyware and a marginal product at best. Go to www.majorgeeks and under antivirus' you'll see removeit and aSquared. Both of those are the best I've ever tried and I have tried them all. Removeit is system32-centered and that's where your virus is. aSquared is antivirus and adware.
