May be so, but after 30++ years in the computer industry I am at least able to detect the parrots citing the the companies latest press releases and the positive "reviews" they have paid some writer to compose.
Parrots who talk a lot but have no idea of what they are saying.
There's more than one? Which one involves this "Linux" thing you were talking about?Which 'computer industry' would that be?
![]()
THere's several.
There's the one populated by spec quoting guys with long beards that assemble their PCs and are might proud how much smarter than their customers they think they are...
... and there's the one populated by quick thinking and forward thinking engineers, who build the tools to get things done, and incur the wrath of the long bearded veterans for breaking with established paradigms.
... and the one with guys who spurn the status quo, break all the rules, and see technology as a means to an end, instead of the end all.
... or the ones who think that hardware = technology.
... or the ones who think that software = technology.
To make matters more confusing and dazzling to the likes of you -- that Linux thing is involved with all of them, in ones way or another.
What a wonderful set of completely ridiculous stereotypes.
You missed the ones that think shiny, good looking toys = state of the art technology. Are they clean shaven?

You miss the fact that 'state of the art technology' can be presented as 'shiny good looking toys'.
You also missed the point about software being technology.
Really, you're just turning more and more into a neanderthal throughout this. It's almost pity inducing.
Yeah, now you're just a sad, sad, sad little man - reduced to lies and ad hominems.
Damn, you must be reloading these threads furiously, aren't you?
I've certainly got you well trained by now.
Though, do me a favor and try to graduate beyond "I know you are, but what am I" grade school retorts -- well, unless you want me to keep treating you at that level.
Oh please keep them coming.I've certainly got you well trained by now.

iPhone grabs 20%+ smartphone market share in the land of Nokia
by Steven Sande (RSS feed) on Jun 23rd, 2010
Finland is the home of mobile phone giant Nokia, but that's not keeping Apple from eating away at the Finnish market for smartphones.
Apple now has over 20% of the Finnish smartphone market. The numbers were disclosed on Sunday by Finnish carrier TeliaSonera, and published by YLE, the Finnish Broadcasting Company.
Although the content of the Google-translated YLE post is subject to interpretation, the gist appears to be that worldwide cell phone market leader Nokia (with about a 33% share of the total world market) is losing share more quickly in the smartphone sector. The iPhone is the current culprit, although Android-based systems are having a impact on Nokia's bottom line as well.
Nokia announced last week that revenue expectations will be lower, primarily because the company is not selling as many higher-priced smart phones as anticipated. Nokia still has 89% of the total mobile phone market in Finland, but as the Finnish people move from simpler phones to more functional smartphones, there is concern that the company will suffer from competition from Apple and other non-Finnish manufacturers.
The sales pressure from Apple on Nokia's home turf might explain the run of patent infringement lawsuits from Nokia during the last six months. TeliaSonera Sales Director Juha Koivuniemi believes that Nokia could benefit in the long run from the competition as a growing market for more expensive smartphones should increase margins for the Finnish phone manufacturer.

At the same time, another news source announced that Apple also now owns 18% of the European smartphone market, and has climbed to nearly 2.5% of the global mobile phone market.
Damn, there must be a lot of really dumb people out there, according to Barracuda or Dug's logic, that only 'dumb' people fall for Apple's hype. Uh huh...
The remote possibility that it could be a better product for the average consumer never even crossed their minds. ...
^ here's the article about the 18% Euro share:
------------
Apple’s iPhone is the dominant smartphone in Europe, accounting for more of the market than any other provider, bar Nokia/Symbian devices -- but will the future of the smartphone biz be characterized by the devices that populate it, or by the software that they run?
iPhone presently holds 18 percent slice of Europe's smartphone market -- ahead of Microsoft (13 percent), RIM (8 percent) and Google (3 percent). Only Symbian holds 58 percent of the smartphone market, the latest comScore figures claim.
European iPhone users are heavily into mobile content: 94 percent use mobile media; 87 percent use applications, and 85 percent browse the mobile internet.
Comscore’s European mobile analyst Jeremy Copp said he expects[at] a “titanic battle” between Apple and Android. The latter has gained 1.7 million users fast, with its share of the smartphone market growing 2429 percent in a year.
The analyst warns that despite battle between Apple and Android, Android phones tend to be pitched at the mid-range market, meaning Google is really up against Symbian for market share.
All the focus on devices may turn out to be a short term thing. MIT professor Michael Cusumano, thinks the future of hardware is far less important than the services the hardware lets you access. That implies the future for Apple in the smartphone space may be found through the App Store.
"It's shifting the business model to the service side, and the product becomes a platform on which to deliver these services," he told silicon.com, “Almost every software product and hardware systems company has been thinking this way,” he said.
That’s an interesting line of reasoning, particularly as the App Store now accounts for 1 percent of Apple’s gross profit, according to Philip Elmer-DeWitt.
In an attempt to boost developers work, Apple last night published an advice note to help devs boost their App presence on iTunes.
