PDF documents - do NOT use adobe pdf reader

I imagine many people here still use adobe pdf reader to read PDF files.

apart from being a massive piece of bloatware , it also is a massive security risk to your windows computer

it is highly rescommended that you uninstall the adobe problem child and then install Foxit PDF reader which will serve you well for all your PDF reading needs.

also foxit has fixed the latest exploit vector with reading PDFs and adobe has not.

    Foxit Software - Downloads(Latest Version)

Several security companies today warned of a major malware campaign that tries to dupe users into opening rigged PDFs that exploit an unpatched design flaw in the PDF format. Users who open the attack PDFs are infected with a variant of a Windows worm known as "Auraax" or "Emold," researchers said.
The malicious messages masquerade as mail from company system administrators and come with the subject heading of "setting for your mailbox are changed," said Mary Grace Gabriel,A PDF attachment purportedly contains instructions on how to reset e-mail settings. "SMTP and POP3 servers for ... mailbox are changed. Please carefully read the attached instructions before updating settings," the message states. In reality, the PDFs contain embedded malware and use the format's /Launch function to execute that malware on Windows PCs running the newest versions of Adobe Systems Inc.'s Acrobat application or its free Adobe Reader,
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

I binned Foxit a long time ago and replaced it with PDF-XChange Viewer. A far better free product.

Slackula, the problem isn't Windows, it's Adobe. They insist on this bloated monstrosity instead of a lean, clean simple reader.

It's as annoying as that Quicktime/Itunes/Safari bollocks that Apple keep trying to foist on everyone.

Then you've got nothing to compare it to.

Try installing Foxit if you're only reading PDF files and you might find out what fast/efficient means.

No, the problem is the inherent insecurity built into Windows. Has there been a privilege escalation exploit yet in Linux via Adobe?

Not quite sure why you make this leap - nothing to do with this thread is it?

I'm merely saying that Foxit and PDF-XChange are far faster loading than Adobe Bloatware. You're saying Adobe is "fast and efficient".

I'm saying try loading a reasonably sized PDF in Adobe and time it. Do the same in Foxit and you'll see how much faster and more efficient it is.

I prefer PDF-XChange because it is still faster than Adobe but has some nice annotation and mark up tools as well.

I use CutePDF to create PDF files by the way. Another reason not to bother with Adobe (how big is the reader now anyway, tens of megabytes I believe).

I see no reason whatsoever to use Adobe Reader to read PDF files, unless you are heavily into the specifics of the PDF format and it's the only thing that can render them 100% as intended when they contain more complex features - which most users don't need.

I should qualify that last post - it was Britmaveric with the fast/efficient absolute with nothing with which to compare it.
