    ask.com crappy search bar appearing

Ok, I want to know how to get rid of the ask.com search bar. I have looked in the control panel and looked to uninstall it but can't find it.

I never use IE for anything except to log into one site for my consulting work as it is only works in IE. If I type anything in the search bar it goes right to ask.com or ask.crap as I call it.

I also see their stupid search bar in the upper right corner of my screen in firefox. I never downloaded it. Recently a Thai tech worked on the computer so I am think he was trying to be "helpful" and loaded a bunch of crap that I would never want or use.

Any advice on how to get rid of it?

it normally comes as part of a package with other stuff, you have to uncheck the box so it isn't downloaded with it, right click it and see what options you get, or start, control panel, add and remove software.

And tell them to build the site properly, ie isn't the only browser in the world.

Yes, I picked the damn thing up on Firefox as well, possibly failed to deselect a box when I was downloading something or other.
Anyway, in Firefox it is an add on and can be uninstalled through Tools>Add-ons - worked fine and ask.com is now history...

PS. There are several search engines in WinDoze Vista and 7 (probably XP to but can't remember) by default and these can also be managed by clicking on the side of the search bar at top right.

I wasn't so lucky. Mine didn't want to die. I have two OSs so finally I went to the other one and deleted it cross HD. It was like a virus. It even popped up after I uninstalled it through three procedures.

I was downloading Canon printer drivers. The option came with the drivers. I unchecked the box, it came anyway.

Yes, it seems that this non consensual type installation has a history and I might have been lucky to rid myself of it so easily...

In both IE and Firefox, Right Click on the Toolbar - the Bar which has File Edit View etc. etc on the left hand side, you will get a List of the availabletems you can show in the Toolbar, simply "uncheck" "Ask.com" or whatever shows there.

They are one of my clients and they pay me VERY well, so I won't be telling them anything and just happily keep accepting their checks!!

Didn't work for me. I read about all the available procedures, most of them insultingly elementary. Nothing I read on the Internet worked.

    Had to do this before.

Google 'How to remove Ask.com taskbar?'

This will explain a number of different ways.

Why not ask them? :-) Personally I would add a good deal of bad language, might not help to get a response but they might start getting the message that we don't like companies using underhand methods to deploy software to our pcs.
