Wanted a computer genius for a stupid problem

A couple of weeks back I decided to do a clean up and get rid of a lot of unused ikons and junk services.
Everything is fine but seems I have had one click too many somewhere with the result FRED will no longer let me copy and paste from My Pictures , My Documents etc. ( using windows XP professional and Internet Explorer ).
Can copy and paste email to email - email to translator and back - can copy to word but cannot copy from the above to email or to post here on TD.
All and any constructive advice appreciated.

XP has a restore function which will essentially take your computer back to the point where the program last made a restore point. I forget exactly how to do it, but I've done it before after getting a virus and screwing up the system. Look for system restore. I know this is not extremely helpful, but don't screw it up anymore until someone who really knows XP can look at it because at this point your problem can be easily fixed.

Thanks anyway Bob , am well aware of system restore but not so easy because have downloaded a couple of major programmes since and am loth to start all over with these.

Sounds like you might have deleted your My Documents folder.

Obvious first question: Did you empty the trash folder? If not it will still be there.

If not, you might try creating a new user, which should create the appropriate files and directories under the profile. Not a lot you can do about what was in your My Documents and it's subdirectories though.

You can get Windows Undeleters that can handle directories as well, but it depends on whether or not Windows has overwritten any of the data.

Thanks Bob , my documents still intact and available but can't copy and paste from there either?
In my pictures I can copy and paste from word documents but cannot C & P any pictures or printed material not in word format - can attach any and all no problem?
Starting to wonder if this is normal and I am imagining that I was able to copy and paste pictures and forms before?
Used system restore to go back to December 12th with no change to problem - maybe I am a victim of my own imagination - I don't think so - use this facility a lot ?

    Who's Bob?!

Can you drag items from, say, "My Pictures" to the Desktop?

And Google "permissions" while you're at it, then all will become as clear as mud.
