    Gmail is a non-functioning monster !!!

Gmail used to be simple, light and run well, and this was in the beta stage. But in the last 2 years, the silly Google developers, trying to justify their existence, have turn that simple and nice email service into an AJAX nightmare, requiring more power than fucking Outlook. WTF is wrong with those guys ???

every time I run Gmail, firefox simply locks, complex JS script slowing down the UI, it's getting so bad that even FireFox freeze Windows desktop and goes into an endless memory leak with 100% CPU usage.

FireFox + Gmail = The new Internet Nightmare, MS has been surpassed

How does it require more power than outlook ??

Gmail is online, Outlook is an installed program.

Gmail works fine on my Work PC (explorer) my 2 home PC's (firefox) and my laptop (Chrome)

The memory leak issue your having will be to do with Firefox not Gmail.

I have not had a problem with Gmail as long as you stick with the old version

as the heavy JS code is executed in FireFox or IE, the browser takes more RAM and CPU

agree, which I do, but it's not automatic, you have to force the switch. The old version is fine. There is also the plain HTML one, but that's too "light"

FireFox is indeed guilty in that regard, but all the versions seem to suffer from those leaks, so I suspect bad "programming" from the Google Dev team, they should know the limit of FireFox

incidentally, I tried the new Chrome, and I find it painfully slow when running Gmail, it's a nightmare. Chrome works fine for everything else, including other webmail service with decent JS code. So the only common factor seem to be the overbloated code in Gmail.

No problems with Gmail here, but then I use Safari...it is very quick.

Sounds as though you might have a software issue someplace. Some of the scripts Gmail use can be problematic as they can conflict certainly. If I use an application that uses JS and it bombs, when I try Gmail, I rarely get a JS problem and have to force quit Gmail's JS. Gmail still runs fine, but I have to halt their scripting.

I use Gmail within Mail, my email software. Never had the slightest problem. Same for Yahoo, hotmail and my other email accounts.

I only access Gmail in the browser to clean the spams.

You are blaming Chrome and Gmail for the deficiencies in your ancient operating system.

The good news is that you have a few choices You can rewrite the JRE to work properly on whatever antique operating system you choose to run or you can buy a proper computer and install Slackware if you can't afford a Mac

firefox goes to 100MB when I run silly Gmail,

same as watching porntube and all those porn sites,

surfing TeakDoor and using other webmail service, only 50MB RAM

    Outlook Express only take 15MB

100mb, bwahahahahahahaha you got more issues if an online program causes your browser to use an extra 100mb.

Ive got FF running with 14 tabs open including Gmail, im idleing at 175mb.... machine dont give a fook, not raising a sweat at all.

Whats the specs of your machine (honestly).

Some people, for an unknown reason like to run an antique OS on antique machines and then complain it doesn't work.

XP should be moved to the trash bin and replaced by a GNU/Linux distro on old hardware.

Clever people will switch to a Mac

No, no, no, BF. Don't answer this post, you're on my ignore list as well as the other french cnut SickTzu or whatever his nickname is.

^ don't need it, and it won't make a difference, it will quack the same with gmail

let me explain simply 100MB != 1GB RAM

so that doesn't explain why gmail is slow, it's the memory leak (bad programming from India) that is the issue here.

when the OS has still 500MB RAM available even if you are running FF with 100MB, and Gmail still quack, adding more RAM doesn't solve the problem

the RAM isn't the issue, that's the lazy clueless stock admin answer from his days at the computer store

likewise, downgrading RAM doesn't make it worse under Gmail,

So adding ram wont make it faster yet removing ram wont make it slower ??

Stop mumbling, explain how 100MB != 1GB RAM
