Putting your business on Google maps..?

Does anyone know how to embed your business location on to google maps?

There are 2 different types. One where you get a local business listing where you can add information, pictures, reviews and general information. This one is easy and I've worked out how to do this. These listings look like this:

    Example A

The one that I can't work out looks like this:

    Example B

At first I thought it was only hotels that got this style of listing but then I saw Doll House on there so there must be a way to do it.

I've tried for hours typing different questions into google but the only results I ever get are explanations on how to do the example A style of listing.

    Can anyone help??

Apologies in advance for my completely useless and unhelpful reply...

But wouldn't you want the first one in preference anyways? To my eye it stands out more (the icon itself).

Because the first one only pops up if you type the business name into the search function. I've got that already.

The second one is there all the time when you scan over the map.

I've started using google maps on my mobile a lot more recently when I'm going somewhere I don't know, to make sure that the taxi driver isn't screwing me over so I'm assuming in this digital age that more and more people especially tourists will do the same. When you pass somewhere on route with your google maps on your mobile, the places pop up on your screen.

Ahh ok, gottcha. Well good luck in your quest.

My Google expertise starts and finishes with a few of those mildly amusing 'I'm Feeling Lucky' searches and variations on "Porn+...".

    Ha Ha.

If there is anyone out there that would just know what the name for that type of listing would be, then I could just change my google search.

The other reason is, my boss has told me to do it.

Any maptologists on TD? I know the correct term is cartographer but there's a few terms in the English language I'm trying to get changed as well but thats another thread.

Oh one of those. Now that I know.

My boss is currently all excited about the Google AdWords thing. I've been doing my best to disavow him of the idea by pointing out it's not actually that relevant to us.

I've been trying for days to sort it out and the annoying thing is that even a few small business on my street have managed it. How the hell did they sort it out before me. I'm supposed to be good at this shit!

I had a look at Google Maps API but not in depth.

I also looked at Google Base Maps but wasn't sure if a small business qualifies for it, and also it asked what sector of the government the application was coming from so I thought it was best not to bullshit them and end up getting banned from a different part of google.

If you find anything mediuman let me me know.

Sorry I was going off at a tangent, The Google Maps API is only good for displaying stuff on your own website...which is pretty straight forward if you have some basic programming skills in JavaScript , however, I think you are looking to add your business to the "official" google map for all to see you.

It actually seems quite simple - go to the Google Maps Local Business Center and add your listing... it is pretty straight forward and they have hundreds of business types to choose from. Make sure your address is correct, however you can adjust your listing on the map from within the Local Business Center.

    your starting point is:
Local Business Center - Maps Help

    Hope this helps

Agreed, I think you register, let google go and position your biz first and then use their adjust map position application

Cheers Mediuman, but thats to get a listing in the style of Example A from the op. I've already set one of those up.

From reading the forum discussion in the link that Melvbot posted, it seems that there is no way at the moment to ensure you get your listing embedded on to the map. Google uses an (allegedly flawed) algorithm to determine who goes on and who doesn't and there is a debate as to why some business's get preference over others.

    Thanks for looking though.

One of the suggestions, in the google forum thread, is to have your business listing, the one that you suggested, filled out 100%. i.e have a decent amount of images, video's, all relevant fields filled in and your website running with no errors. I've done that.

Also it said that having a wiki listing may help. I don't have that. I've looked into it but not had time to work it out yet.

It said that the age of the business could also be a factor. We've been open 4 years, I've seen some emmbeded listings for places like the Dream Hotel on Sukhumvit, and they've not been open that long.
