Using your mobile as a modem

This weekend we're staying upcountry with my wife's family so I thought I'd have a crack at using my blackberry as a modem and it was pretty easy.

1st off I just had to pair the laptop with the mobile using bluetooth. (I forgot the cable) There was a setup assistant for this so it was a piece of piss.

Then all I had to do was set up a new network connection and booom!! connected!!

I'm only getting speeds of around 200k but that's fine just to have a quick check on TD.

Just thought that this might be useful to any of you guys who are deep in boonsville and only have dial up connection.

That's how I've been connecting lately too. (since my fight with maxnet dickholes)
Except I'm using a Vodaphone modem which doesn't have any Mac compatible software. So I'm stuck using XP for a while. It's really farking slow sometimes.
It was pretty nifty to get internet on the dive boat out on the Similan Islands.

That's what I was thinking. It would be pretty cool to get the internet where ever you are, on the beach, on the bus, on a boat etc...

I use an aircard when I'm away from home with the DTAC unlimited for just over 1000B a month inc tax.
Its a little more pricey than AIS but AIS block certain hand sites like Samair, ISOHunt etc of thier own volition, whereas DTAC block none.

Using the aircard (which cost about 1800B) I can surf pretty well on most sites bar the likes of YouTube. I can even DL small torrents (100 - 300 MB) in a few hours and still surf fairly well with them plodding on in the background.

..odd..they charge 999 per month here..500 for a 250hr package, which is what I use..oh woe is me, I'll never have a good net connection where I live, meaning no downloading, meaning bollocks..

I used to have IPstar (a big fuck off satellite dish), was about 2,600 per month..didn't know about downloads then, so not sure it would work...anyone?

Nice......in tesco centre the se ed book store has air cards for 1300 to 3000b.....some only use ais, others use all the sims from any phone company.

There cost of top up cards and per hour rate was very expensive though, so good to know other rates available.

Who is the best company for reliabitlity and rates. Good dowload capabilities for music and movies etc.

I was using my Nokia to access the net while my modem was running slow.
    Works a treat by bluetooth.
