    Dead externals

Actually both my external hard drives are completely void of any life whatsoever, the cables and junction boxes are dusty and after a good clean, still - nothing, no hum no light.

I suppose Phantip or Fortune Town is the way to go and hope for the best. Can anyone recommend any doctors?

I'm pretty sure they can rescue data, I fried one of them once by plugging in the cord to the other one and got this burning smell and I take my hat off to the boys at Phantip who simply re-housed it.

I suppose if I come out of this a happy man, I should keep my hard drives in Tupperware boxes in future.
"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly. It's the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out. I'd rather be in, in a good system. That's where my discontent comes from: being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

Okay, but what will you do when you look at them?

Maybe I could just do what you would do when they are in your hands, I have already tried blowing on them and tapping them with a stick.

open them and plug in power and check that the HDs are getting the required voltage with a multimeter

you could maybe do the same with a calibrated finger

That's too complicated for me and I don't know what calibrated means... Anyway, they worked before last time I tried which was going back at least 4 months.

They're prolly just a bit stuck. Bang them on the floor for a bit to loosen them up.
