    Computer Jammed up/Frozen

    Stupidly,

I installed Avast Antivirus before uninstalling "Kapersky" and/or AOL free software.

I uninstalled Avast after I found out, but the computer is jammed up. Cannot do anything.

    Any advice?

^ Hard to do if it's locked up...

Boot up in Safe Mode, then once it boots up, log in, then click on Start / Run and type in msconfig and click Ok... This will launch MS System Configuration Utility... Click on the Startup tab and locate the errant crap software and uncheck it so it won't load when you start your PC... You may have to click on the Services tab and do the same, depends on how the errant software was written... Then restart the PC and uninstall the errant program...

If you are typing away here on TD then you obviously have two computers so my advice is to throw the jammed up/frozen one away.

Thanks for the responses. MeM, I was logged on from an internet cafe as I needed to check an important email.

    DD: Thanks for the advice.

Question: how do I find "task manager?" Where is it?

Now, I just started up my laptop computer and I am using Internet Explorer.
    It seems to work.

    Tomorrow morning I'll try Firefox.

F*ck I'm ignorant and stupid about this stuff. But I'm not sure if the laptop I'm on now is OK or not. Find out tomorrow.

Mine sometimes freezes due to overheating.
Only the chock-treatment gets it up running again.

    Pull the cable

Hey Milkman, anytime you decide you want to change security programs:

    1. You download the new security program to your desktop.
    2. Disconnect your internet service.
    3. Uninstall the old security program.
    4. Install your new security program.
    5. Reboot your computer and connect to the internet.

It'll take some time - it takes time to reload all threads, every minute.

Or for the task manager, right click the taskbar and it's on the menu.
